What are Assessments about??

The Students

"The litmus test for our assessments must include a deep focus on student involvement because it inevitably leads to student achievement. If we cannot explicitly show how students are engaged in assessments that we deliver, then we cannot sufficiently defend the use of those very assessments." (Lopez, 2013, ch. 8)

Teacher- Student- TEAMWORK!!!

  • Have an "Exceptional systems ensure that staff members are on the same page by asking the right questions, making sure that everyone understands the answers, and taking explicit steps to guarantee that nothing falls between the cracks." (Lopez, 2013, ch. 8)
  • Don't use useless assessments that waste teacher and student time.
  • Measure skills, engage the student, determine understanding, and evaluate results.

Engage and share assessment information with student, make sure they fully understand what it is used for and how it will be administered. Parent teacher conferences, make sure all parents understand to the best of their ability the assessment, the importance of the assessment, how it will be administered, and what they data will collect. Facilitate team meeting to collaborate and discuss assessments, data collected, and any information.
