CHORES FOR CHANGE!
Chores for Change
7th grade Expedition Service Project
November 20th - December 4th
Help us build change makers! Parents, partner with MGM to provide an opportunity for our 7th graders to explore how they can improve social issues through service and learn lifelong lessons about the impact their work can have at a local level and around the world.
As 7th grade learns about ethical consumption through the expedition, What’s the Cost?, students are encouraged to examine the effects of globalization on families across all continents. In hopes of the students exploring a meaningful way to impact change in economically disadvantaged countries across the globe, we have partnered with Heifer International’s program, Chores for Change. Heifer is a nonprofit organization that works with communities to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth. Our donations will help provide gifts of livestock and training for struggling families.
Chores for Change is a service program designed for children and youth. Whether at home, school or in another group setting, the program shows students how they can create local and global change at the same time. The program invites students to volunteer in their communities while raising pocket change to support global initiatives around the world.
We are not asking you to write a check or have students beg for money. We are simply asking that you support your child in doing chores around the house, the neighborhood, or for other family members in exchange for spare change. Volunteer projects may include cleaning out the garage, racking an elderly neighbor's yard, babysitting, or participating in a community wide service project like a river cleanup or soup kitchen.
Beginning the week of November 27th, we will have collection boxes in CREW. As your child does chores and earns money, they can donate their change to their CREW goal of purchasing an animal or seedlings for a family in another country. We hope that students discover the benefits of service and learn how their interests and talents can benefit others. We look forward to seeing the impact 7th grade can make on a global scale with our service project Chores for Change!

Learning Commons News
If you could take out the announcement about the donated Light Brites and bottle caps, that would be great. If you could replace with:
"Before winter break, encourage your student to return overdue materials to the Learning Commons and check out something new to have over the break. Students receive overdue notices through their email."
Thanks!
