New Research Bites Webinars
Taking more bites to give you the best professional learning
Our summer series of Research Bites webinars has proved to be a huge success, with a total of 465 delegates joining us over the 12 sessions.
In fact, they were so successful we’ve decided to continue them into the autumn term and maybe even beyond, depending on demand. But more on that later.
The idea for the Research Bites webinars was borne out of our drive to constantly update our own professional learning during the lockdown.
We had seen other webinars aimed at teachers and while some were excellent, some didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of what we feel teachers need in their professional learning.
So, we set ourselves the task of providing valuable professional learning backed up by the latest and best research while also helping our ImpactPlus members make the best use of our website and wide range of resources.
Our first webinar was free, and it was based on a single sketchnote – how to create deep learning both for CPD and in the classroom. It was incredibly popular and the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received persuaded us to continue.
It was in that first period of lockdown where things were particularly overwhelming and stressful, so we knew we had to keep the webinars short, sharp and to the point while still being packed full of things to think about.
We planned the content around what was going on at the time, what was at the forefront of teachers’ minds, based on conversations we had with our advisory board as well as what was being talked about on social media and reported on in the news.
We asked ourselves: What are teachers worried about? What are they being expected to do? What does the research say about that?
The number of returning delegates as well as the feedback we have had from those sessions has shown us teachers really value the content and the way we delivered it, which is why we’ve decided to do some more.
We know with the new school year approaching (it’s already started in Scotland) amid continued coronavirus uncertainty, teachers are going to be under immense pressure.
They will have less time to do everything, so whatever they do has to be effective. So, for our new Research Bites webinars we are again going to take a flexible approach and design the content based on what teachers need at the time they need it.
Our next webinar takes place next Tuesday, August 18th, with sessions at 9am and 4pm.
Titled ‘The Human Memory, Learning and Implications for Teaching’, it will look at what teachers need to know about the human memory, how learning happens and what this means for teaching.
