Miss Kinney's 2nd Grade Class

January 16, 2015

Fractions Museum

Students collaborated with others by sharing their exhibits in our "Fractions Museum!" I was so impressed with all of the creativity and "out of the box" thinking! Bravo!

Genius Hour

Students researched their "wonders!" It was awesome to hear all of the new information they learned from their curiosities!

Snow on the Playground

As long as the temperature is above 20 degrees and it is safe for students, we will go outside for recess when there is snow on the ground. Students will only be allowed to walk and play in the snow if they are wearing snow boots and gloves. Thank you for your help with ensuring students stay safe and dry on snowy recess days!

Permission forms for our root beer float experiment were sent home this week. Please return the permission form as soon as possible! Thank you!

We are Learning...

Reading: We will continue to discuss how details support the main idea in a text. We will also compare and contrast nonfiction texts that cover the same topic.

Math: We will continue working with fractions and mixed numbers on a number line. We will dive deeper into equivalent fractions and comparing fractions!

Writing: We will be writing nonfiction texts to teach our readers about a topic. We will tie in our "wonders" from our Genius Hour projects to figure out topics that we care about or want to learn more about!

We will complete our unit on the states of matter. Students will be studying the properties of liquids, solids and gases with our root beer and snowman experiments!
