Impact of the KEA: Coaching Conversations
About the Video: WSFCS Coaching Impact
In this video (below), Katie McGregor (K-2 Curriculum Coordinator) and Caroline Bostian (former K teacher now teaching 3rd grade), of Diggs-Latham Elementary School in Winston-Salem, talk about the impact the KEA/K-3 Formative Assessment Process has had on their students. Ms. McGregor, working as an Instructional Coach with Kindergarten teachers, discusses here how she uses the construct progressions as a tool within team PLC meetings to engage teachers in thinking about how to use the progressions to think about where to take kids next.
Ms. McGregor coaches her teams of teachers to use evidences they've gathered about their students to purposefully plan future lessons that are both geared toward the whole child and based on exactly what students need to move them to the next step on the construct progressions. Ms. McGregor and Ms. Bostian both share that deeply engaging in the Formative Assessment Process in this way has had impacted students in many ways, including their achievement on traditional academic assessments.

Digging Deeper Into the Construct Progressions - Health and Physical Development
The 60th day Status Summary is one part of the larger Formative Assessment Process. Teachers across the state are digging deeper into the construct progressions from January to June.
This month we are focusing on Health and Physical Development. Take a look at our Quick Guides for Crossing Midline, Grip and Manipulation, and Hand Dominance. These Quick Guides can be found on our KEA Resources page. They provide a jumping off point for you to plan Professional Development for your teachers so that they gain a deep understanding of the construct. At the end of each Quick Guide you will find several activities which teachers can use with their students to elicit evidence for that construct.
Your RIT has a Formative Assessment goal, too!
