EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of June 20, 2021
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Egg Harbor Township School Community,
Another school year in the books! A very unique and trying year for all. A year filled with unclear guidance, constant change, and new beginnings. We all did our very best to interpret, implement, and follow health and safety guidance; all while adjusting to new schedules, new methods, and new pathways. As a school community we collaborated to create plans that provided a thorough education for our students, opportunities for athletics and activities, and resources for social and emotional support. I am grateful for all who supported us along this wild and crazy road. A special thank you to our students who were flexible through this entire journey.
Congratulations to the Class of 2021! I applaud their greatness with #EHTPride as they earned over 17.2 million dollars in scholarships national scholar awards, athletic and performing arts championships, the distinguished Old Grad Award, and achievement in language mastery.School history was made with three appointments to military academies- Army and Navy- and a very first State championship for our girl track team. Amazing things accomplished under unique circumstances.
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has required that we submit a ‘Safe Return Plan’ that is due on June 24th. The plan is tied to the American Rescue Plan. With the submission and approval of this plan, our district is eligible for $9.5 million dollars to help sustain the safe operations of schools and to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our students, In order to apply for this funding, I must submit a safe return plan to the NJDOE with specific criteria. I will be presenting the information on required categories to the Board of education this week. The Safe and Return Plan was shared with the pandemic teams that represented each one of our schools.
A kind reminder that it is very important for families that qualify for free and reduced lunch to register for our free and reduced meals program as soon as possible. Benefits include pandemic electronic benefits (P-EBT card), free and reduced internet service, SAT fee waiver, free college (dual credit) courses, free and reduced rates for AP testing and Seal of Biliteracy assessments, and millions in state and federal grants to enhance Egg Harbor Township programs.

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. Together, we can achieve more!
