Big Hollow School District #38 Vision and Mission Statements

Vision: Big Hollow School District #38 will be a model of student achievement for elementary school districts in the State of Illinois.

Mission: Inspiring a diverse school community to be passionate and empathetic learners.

Parking Lot Safety

Safety Rules in parking lots and around school buses are in place to protect our most precious resource - our children.

PLEASE obey established parking lot safety rules. The exit at the north end of the parking lot by the primary building is EXIT only. The entrance at the south end of the parking lot near the bus lot is an entrance AND an exit. Please use the correct lanes at ALL times. The fire lane may be used for drop off only between 8:15am and 8:35 am. When dropping students off in the fire lane during this time, please only let students exit the vehicle curb side between the two crosswalks. You must park in the parking lot and walk your child into the building at all other times. Please follow the arrows in the parking lot.

It is unlawful for a driver to pass a school bus that has stopped to load or unload children when its stop signal arm is extended. The driver is required to stop his or her vehicle before passing the school bus from either direction.

Round Lake Park District Play

Early this past week, we heard through a few parents that the Round Lake Area Park District (RLAPD) decided to cancel the Spring play due to scheduling conflicts with the Big Hollow facilities. We did not know anything about the possibility of the play being cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. We immediately called the RLAPD and scheduled a meeting to discuss the issues with access to our facilities and find alternative options if necessary, as we have enjoyed a great relationship with RLAPD in the past. After meeting their staff and informing them that our facilities are available when they need them, we were informed that they could no longer get a Director for the play this Spring. We are very disappointed that our kids will not have the opportunity to participate this Spring and we are evaluating our options for making sure this does not happen again in the future.

Winter Benchmark Testing

Students in grades K-8 have recently completed winter benchmark testing. Students in K-1 take the Map for Primary Grades (MPG) and students in 2-8 take Measures of Academic Progress or (MAP). Students will be bringing home a progress report from NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) on February 10. For more information on resources for parents, please read the Parent's Guide to MAP from NWEA.
