Mrs. Yoder's Class
Week 14: November 30-December 4
Ritchey Woods Outreach Program
Last week your child got the chance to learn more about Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve without having to leave the classroom! Fishers Parks & Recreation’s Chief Naturalist Danesa Stolz visited class during our Nature First program. This one hour outreach program teaches children about our environment through a combination of curriculum based activities paired with hands-on exploration. We invite you to join the conversation through using the "Ask me about" prompts below. We hope this is a helpful tool that allows your family to connect over nature-related topics!
Ask your child about….
Ask your child about how Ritchey Woods has changed!
- Children got to see images of the preserve from the last 80 years. We also talked about what it may have looked like almost 200 years ago when Ebenezer Osborn first moved to the land in 1834.
Ask your child about what the animals in Indiana do to survive the winter!
- We discussed that animals have three choices: to hibernate, to migrate or to stay and adapt to an Indiana winter.
Ask your child what animal I met last week!
- We had a chance to meet Shelby. She is an eastern box turtle. We found out that the box turtles in Indiana hibernate for the winter.
