Dear Parents,
The past two months have flown by and we just finished our first grading period. If your child has some incomplete grades please have them submit them online this weekend! We worked very hard these past few days but are still missing a few things here and there.
I was so impressed with our kids during the performance with Mrs. Benson. They did an incredible job and it was wonderful to witness the full house on Thursday night! Bravo!!!
Curriculum Updates:
Math: We are still working on decimal operations as these are important skills in the real world as well as helpful in our learning of financial literacy terminology. This past week we talked about taxes. These are difficult terms for ten year olds to grasp but they are already showing better understanding as they worked on the "Case of the Disappearing Paycheck". Please talk to your child about gross and net incomes as these are also terms that don't commonly come up in ten year old's conversations! I like to use the analogy of a net in fishing, and how everything flows out and you only get to keep what stays in the net. Next week will we learn about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of payments. We will learn about checks, debit cards, credit cards and cash.
Science: The learners have been hard at work polishing their Google Slide presentations, and models in preparation for their presentations to their class! We've gotten a sneak peek at an amazing model of a geothermal plant. On Monday learners will team up with another group to practice their presentations and fix loose ends. The process is called critical friends, where learners give feedback to help the group be more successful by giving suggestions, I likes, and I wonders.
ELAR: We will continue of Literature Circles, spelling and word work. Learners have posted activities on Schoology in the Reading and ELAR folders. Word work options are posted as are links to Digital Read Works.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be reading and learning about the upcoming elections this week!
Thank you,
Ms. Voltz
