CALVIN PARK UPDATE
Week of October 5-9, 2020
We find it hard to believe that it is already October! Students and staff are so appreciative of the time that we have had with our students this year to learn together at school! We are continuing to enforce the health protocols that are important both at school and in the community, and we appreciate your support in doing this as well. Thank you for completing the Covid-19 screening each morning, following all Public Health guidelines (frequent handwashing/sanitizing, wearing a mask, keeping distance) and keeping your child at home when there are symptoms present. Please use the link to the government's Covid-19 School Screening tool that is included in this newsletter.
We know that these times are challenging for everyone and increased anxiety and worry are common for our students, staff and families. We thank you for all that you are doing to support your children and our school. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns, or if you or your child need additional support. We truly believe that together we are stronger.
Thank you - please take care of each other and stay well,
Mrs. Elizabeth Suriyuth, Principal suriyuthe@limestone.on.ca
Ms. Wilma Pettingill, Vice-Principal pettingillw@limestone.on.ca

To book an appointment for your child to have their Grade 7 immunizations or for Grade 8 students to catch-up their immunizations that they missed due to school closure last year, please click on this link: Book an Appointment
Families can complete the online consent for immunization prior to their appointment at this link: Grade 7 Immunization Consent Form
REMINDER - NO VISITORS ALLOWED IN THE SCHOOL AT THIS TIME
A reminder to our families that parents/guardians are not allowed to enter the school at this time without an appointment. This is to help to limit contacts outside their class cohorts for our students. If you need to drop off something for your child or pick up your child early, please call the school office or send a note with your child. We will meet you outside in the front of the school.
CALVIN PARK CLOTHING ORDERS
We are also looking into ordering facemasks from a different supplier and information will follow if these are available. Please contact the office if you need assistance with your order.
Potential Increase in Bus Delays/Cancellations
Tri-Board Student Transportation has indicated there will likely be more bus delays and cancellations this year due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Transportation to and from school is not guaranteed. Families should have a backup plan to transport their student(s) to school, and to arrange child care where required, if their bus is cancelled for any reason and they cannot transport their student to school.
Families should ensure they are signed up to receive direct notifications, either by email, or Tri-Board’s app. Delays and cancellations are also posted to Tri-Board’s Twitter account.

School Council
Our first School Council Meeting will be virtual and is scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. We will begin with elections for those who are interested in Executive Positions. You don't need to be in an executive position to attend School Council - you may wish to attend to hear more about what is happening at Calvin Park. Please complete the google form below by noon on October 5th if you are interested in virtually attending the first School Council Meeting. We will share the meeting link with you. In addition, on the form please indicate whether you are interested in one of the Executive Positions or would like to nominate someone else.
CHAIR - chief administrator of Parent Council - creates meeting agendas, liaisons between parents, school, administration and staff. Coordinates and supports volunteers, publishes newsletters, chairs Council meetings, keeps in touch with all coordinators.
VICE CHAIR - Duties of Chair could be split with Vice-Chair if deemed appropriate by Council. Vice Chair chairs any Council meeting that the Chair is unable to attend. The Vice Chair will also take meeting notes in the event that the Secretary is not available. If Co-Chairs are elected than the two parties will share the duties.
TREASURER - duties include handling all council money, produces financial statements/reports and presents these at monthly meetings.
SECRETARY - duties include attendance at Council meetings, recording minutes at monthly meetings and distribution to appropriate parties, maintains records as necessary.
And while we don't vote on the following position, MEMBERS AT LARGE play a very important role. Every parent/guardian is welcome to attend any and all Parent Council Meetings throughout the year!
MEMBERS AT LARGE - along with the executive, Parent Council relies on the parent community to come to meetings and have a say in issues that affect our students. We need parent representation to vote on how our fundraising efforts are allocated and to volunteer at various events and initiatives throughout the school year.
