February 10, 2021
Brrrr . . . it is cold outside and it looks like the wintry weather could be around for several days. If changes to school operations are necessary due to inclement weather, Plano ISD will communicate to families using the various methods outlined below.
Monday and Tuesday, February 15 and 16, are student holidays and school will be closed. That would be a great time for our students to see snow and build a Texas snowman--let's hope the weather cooperates!
You don't want to miss Jackson PTA's Spirit Event at Chili's tomorrow, Thursday, February 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Whether you dine in or carry out, you can enjoy a stress-free meal with your family or special someone. . . maybe even celebrate an early Valentine's Day! If you present the flyer below when you order, Jackson will receive 15% of the ticket. What a way to "share the love" with your family and school!
This week, February 8 - 12, we have been celebrating friendship and kindness at Jackson. We have enjoyed watching our students participate in Kindness activities and dressing for the daily themes. Tomorrow's theme is "Don't let good friends slip away--always show kindness" and wear slippers! Friday's theme is "It's always safe to spread kindness"--wear a shirt that has a message about kindness!
Thanks,
Kamili Carthledge, Assistant Principal

Plano ISD is monitoring the weather, which calls for cold temperatures and wintry precipitation over the next few days.
If changes to school operations are necessary, information will be communicated to families using the methods described below. Stay connected and stay warm!
· School Messenger (telephone message): In case of school closure, Assistant Superintendent for Student Engagement & District Services Dr. Kary Cooper will send a School Messenger voice mail message to all staff.
· The Plano ISD website (www.pisd.edu): Weather-related closures and updates will be posted in real time on the Plano ISD home page as well as campus websites.
· The Plano ISD Mobile App (www.pisd.edu/mobileapp): Download the mobile app and log in to receive specific messages related to your school. However, weather closures will be sent to all app users, even if you are not logged in to the system.
· Social media – Facebook (www.facebook.com/PlanoISD) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/Plano_Schools): Weather-related closures will be posted immediately to Plano ISD’s Facebook and Twitter pages. You do not have to sign up for Facebook or Twitter to view these pages; however, followers will receive instant updates in their newsfeeds.
· Local news media: Plano ISD will make information available to local television and radio stations and will enlist their assistance in communicating with our audiences.

Instructional Environment Change Selection Period
4th 9-Week Change of Instructional Environment
The instructional environment selection window for the final nine weeks of school is February 15-19 for all levels (elementary and secondary students). Students will be scheduled in the selected instructional environment, face-to-face or PISD School@Home, which will go into effect on March 15, 2021, the first day of the fourth 9-week grading period. If no changes are made in Parent Portal, then the current instructional environment will remain in effect until the last day of school.
To view a breakdown of the environment selection at your campus for the current nine weeks visit School@Home Selection.
Parents Who DO NOT Want to Make a Change of Environment – NO ACTION REQUIRED
Process for Changing Instructional Environment Selection
- All primary guardians will receive a notification prior to the change selection period.
- Changes may be made in the Parent Portal.
- Instructions on how to complete the process are located in the Parent Portal.
- Elementary students changing their environment may be assigned to a new teacher. Change in environment will almost always result in a teacher change.
Please Note: The Texas Education Agency has issued guidance that allows school districts to stop offering virtual instruction to individual students with poor grades or attendance. Campuses will notify parents if a student’s attendance and/or academic performance in one or more classes puts them at significant risk of severe learning loss in the PISD School@Home or the hybrid schedule remote days.
A student’s lack of engagement and poor academic performance could result in revoked access to the remote learning environment or PISD School@Home. In which case, the student may be required to return to the face-to-face learning environment (or hybrid 4 days a week). Campuses will notify and collaborate with parents regarding learning environment changes if their student is not demonstrating academic success.
