Band lessons & Solos

Work on solos is well under way! Check in with your student and ask if they can play what they have been working on so far in their solo for you.

We will NOT be having regularly scheduled lessons the week of Nov. 22.

  • Students needing to make up a lesson should attend either resource on Monday, Nov. 22.

Winter Concert - Monday Dec. 13th @ Sun Prairie High School

CHUMS December Concert – Monday Dec. 13th @ High School PAC with High School Bands.

  • 8th Grade Bands will perform at the 6:30pm Concert. (warm-up @ 6pm)

  • 9th Grade Band & Wind Symphony will perform at the 8:00pm Concert (warm-up @ 7:30pm)

*Students will be responsible for bringing their school instrument, music, and uniform to this event. If you need help with these logistics, please reach out so we can figure out how to help.

*Reminder to look for uniform parts now (including all black shoes & socks for vest/tie people). If you need help with any of these items, please reach out - we have some items to loan.

WSMA Solo & Ensemble - Registration (due early December)

Students are all working on selecting a solo for this important project that helps foster individual musicianship and growth. Students have 2 options for their performance grade:

Option #1, Saturday 2/12/22 – at the official WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival, Patrick Marsh

  • Fees are involved to cover registration and optional medal

  • Register HERE

  • Fees paid on Infinite Campus, due NO LATER than Friday Dec. 10th

Option #2, Thursday 2/10/22 – Solo Night @ CHUMS, 3 – 6pm

  • There are no fees involved for Solo Night

  • This is designed for students who are not able to attend on Saturday or would prefer a different option (more laid back)

  • Students will sign-up for at time on this evening at a later date (no action needed now)

Solo & Ensemble - Piano entries

Students wishing to perform in Solo & Ensemble on piano - please note there is a different date/event on Tuesday February 15th from 5 - 8pm @ Sun Prairie High School.

Students will perform in the Performing Arts Center on the Steinway Grand Piano.

Registration can be completed on the same form as above.

Solo & Ensemble - Volunteers & Donations Needed

Please support our musicians on Saturday, February 12, 2022 by volunteering and making this festival a success. We could use your help to make Solo & Ensemble a great event for students. How can you help?

  • Door monitor (keep hallways quiet, help adjudicator with who performs next)

  • Runner (walk to each site and collect completed results and bring them to the office for tabulation)

  • Concessions (sell food, clean tables, etc)

  • Donate food items for concessions or the adjudicator lunch

Big band dance - dec 4

We are excited to be just a few short weeks away from our Annual Big Band Dance on December 4th. Please tell all of your friends and family to come!

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, and children 5 and under are free.

We are once again at the Angell Park Pavilion with doors opening at 6:30pm and live music beginning at 7pm. Parents, we are looking for a few volunteers to assist with concession sales. Please see this link for more information and to sign up.

Band Lesson Academy - openings still available

In the past, many students and families have found value in taking private lessons with amazing professionals on their instrument. Good news - those teachers come right to Cardinal Heights after school on Tuesdays 3:00-900 PM! Information and registration can be found here.

Ordering Band Supplies

Visit Ward Brodt's website to order any band supplies you need. Order what you need and then at check out you can choose school delivery under the shipping section. If you choose school delivery, your supplies will be delivered to Cardinal Heights and we will make sure you get them. If you are unsure what kind of reeds/valve oil/slide grease to purchase, we have attached a list of recommended supplies here.
