Summer is Here--and Your Library is Open!
As summer vacation begins, a note to all RES students: the RES library will be open on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-11:00 for you to check out books, return books, and pay for books that you may have lost during the past school year (2016-2017.) Again, the library will be open on most Wednesdays from 9:00-11:00 for your convenience.
Our donorschoose.org robot project is fully funded and the Wonder Robots Have Already Introduced Themselves!
Our project proposal on donorschoose.org to help buy some Dash robots from the Wonder Workshop is now fully funded! We are so excited to get enough funding to buy these robots to help the students learn coding with a hands-on approach. Donations were locally and from all around! Including a very special and much appreciated anonymous gift of $300.00! We are so grateful for people who are willing to support our students! For more information on the robots go to makewonder.com.
Again, many thanks to all donors who made our first donors choose.org project a success!
Coding? What is Coding?
Coding is another way of describing what is created to make computer programs run. The coding we use at Rockwell is generally described as visual coding, employing the drag and drop concept. Want to see some examples? Here are some sites where you can see (and try!) some drag and drop coding!
santatracker.google.com (select the Play icon and try the dance! You'll get a "kick" out of it!
code.org (select elementary then select course 1 and try stage 3 Jigsaw puzzle--it might be puzzling but you can do it!
code academy.com (you'll have to create an account but it's free!)
Some fun apps:
the Foos (part of the hour of code--really simple and fun!)
tynker (more complicated)
cargobot (more of a game that was coded--still fun!)
Explore and Enjoy--your students are!
