Badminton
Badminton is coming off a week in which they faced two of the tougher conference opponents in Washington and Como Park. While the Hawks did not win either match, they learned some valuable lessons that should benefit them in this week's slate of matches! The Hawks will face rival Johnson High School today at 4:00 PM in the Humboldt main gym. The Governor's historically are comparable to the Hawks, so the team is optimistic entering the match. They will continue their homestand on Wednesday, hosting the Scots of Highland Park, a very winnable match for the Hawks. That match will take place in the Humboldt main gym as well and tips off at 4:00 PM.
Softball
The Softball team has had better luck than some of our other outdoor teams in that they have had been able to get a game in already this season. Our fingers are crossed for their game tomorrow, Tuesday against Roosevelt High School. The game would be held at the Bossen Athletic Complex in South Minneapolis with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 PM. The Hawks and Teddies have historically been quite competitive with each other, so this would be a fun one to watch if you're coming from the West Metro! Additionally, the Hawks Have two home games at the end of the week that are forecasted to be much warmer. The Hawks host the Eagles of New Life Academy on Thursday, 4/21 and The Crusaders of St Croix Lutheran on Friday 4/22. The Thursday game begins at 4:00 PM, while the Friday match up will begin at 4:15. Both Matches will be held on the Humboldt Turf.
Tennis
The Boys tennis team has had some tough luck with their schedule thus far with multiple games having been canceled due to the weather. Today is no exception, with their match against Como Park getting postponed. Their fortunes look to turn around towards the end of the week, and they are hopeful to get their Wednesday match in against Harding (which will be held at Harding) as well as their Friday match against Brooklyn Center which will be their first home match of the season.
Track and Field
The track and field team has yet to make it to a meet due to the weather, however their team is brimming with talent, and is planning on running their fist meet of the year this Thursday (4/21/22) at Central High School. The team is incredibly well rounded on both the boys and girls side this season with many of the XC runners from this fall making up the core of the distance events, while Volleyball, Soccer and Football stars are shining in the sprints. This will be a fun season to watch for the Hawk's runners!
Baseball
Of all the outdoor spring sports, no one has had a tougher go than Baseball, with all of their game having been postponed due to the weather at this point. However, much like their other outdoor sports, they are optimistic for this upcoming week. The Hawks are hoping to have their season debut this Wednesday at Como Park at 4:30 PM. With the Hawks not having fielded a baseball team over the past few seasons due to the pandemic, they will be playing a JV only season this spring. With that said, the optimism around the program, and excitement from the athletes has not been hindered, and we are excited to see how they do on Wednesday!
PI Softball
The Adapted Softball team takes quite the road trip tomorrow (Tuesday 4/19/22) traveling to Rochester's Fridell Middle School to face off with the adapted team from Rochester Public Schools for the coveted "TJ Austin Highway 52 Memorial Trophy"! For those of you who plan to make the trip, be sure to tip your cowboy hats in honor of our Small Engines wizard as you travel through Cannon Falls. Good luck to our Hawks in their game this week!
(for those wondering the trophy isn't a real thing - yet).
Boys and Girls Golf
The girls golf team finished 2nd in last week's friendship round against the other St. Paul Schools at Cedarholm Golf Course. This week both teams look to kick off their conference seasons this Wednesday with the Boys headed to the Highland National Course and the Girls headed back to Cedarholm. Watch for Senior's Elliott McNally and Kyaw Htway to have low scores, while underclassmen Nina Mork and Yingkong Chang try to make the leaderboard.
Volleyball
The Boys Volleyball team continues to have steady attendance with some very high-level athletes joining the team. Varsity Soccer, Wrestling, Cross Country and Football players have all signed up for the team thus far. While the team will be competing as a club sport only this season, the excitement around the program has grown, and this trial season of club status will surely help the team make the transition to MSHSL in the coming years.
