Healesville Primary School
Week 3- Term 2 - Thursday 6 May 2021
From the Principal's Desk…
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been an unbelievably busy start to the term with lots more to come! So far we have had our highly successful House and District Athletics Sports, our first working bee in eighteen months, grades five and six have been undertaking swimming instruction and our Book Fair is on at the moment.
Next week on Tuesday 11th May, we are launching our first Maths Night in a very long time. The teachers are excited and the students are excited – we hope to see lots of families participating in what will be a great night.
This is a perfect opportunity to come along and learn how Maths is taught at HPS as well as see your child’s/children’s classrooms and the wonderful work they have been doing.
We start off at 6pm, our Captains will greet you and provide you with a passport to be stamped as you complete the different activities. The whole school will be open and you can wander around at your own pace. The school will be open till 7:30pm.
On Saturday we held a very successful working bee – thank you to all of our parents and students who attended. The school looked fantastic after your efforts. Sheri Niclasen one of our school council members suggested a great idea for the area next to our ramp that runs beside the library/playgroup building. We are wondering if any parents have some succulents to donate so we could lay some more soil and plant a succulent garden. All donations would be greatly appreciated and could be dropped off at the office.
Mother’s Day Morning Tea:
On Friday we are holding a Mother’s Day Morning Tea in the hall. Hopefully, lots of our mothers, grandparents, carers and special people will be able to attend. It will start at 10:30am and go until 11:00am. There will be scones with jam and cream, cups of tea and biscuits to share. All of our students and teachers will be there to celebrate too. There will also be an opportunity to have your photo taken with your child if you wish in our special Mother’s Day photo booth.
Some of our students are wearing shoes with rollers/wheels in them to school – please do not allow your child to wear these to school – they are not appropriate footwear.
Many of our students have lots of dangly jewellery – earrings /necklaces – these are very unsafe and not part of our primary school uniform. No jewellery is to be worn unless it is for religious purposes.
Also some of our girls have begun wearing nail polish and, again this is not part of our primary school uniform. Long fake nails are also quite dangerous at school during sport and playtime and are also not allowed.
Our Book Fair is happening this week in the Library. It will be open from Wednesday to Friday and you can pop in at any time to have a browse.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Tanya at the Healesville Garden Centre on Maroondah Highway for her advice and donated plants. Our students have been very fortunate to be working with our volunteer Valerie Drew in our gardens and she also organised all of the plants. So thank you!!
If you have some time and would like to volunteer to work in the sustainability hub with our students please come in and see us in the office or speak to Meagan Bult.
A dojo went out today reminding parents that children who are unwell, no matter how mild their symptoms, must stay home until they are fully recovered. We thank you for your cooperation with this directive.
