Coyote Connection
Volume 1 Issue 7
Overall we have had a good first full week back at FC since our virtual shut down. Our students have been glad to be back in the classrooms learning, and our teachers are excited to see them every day! Mr. Quinn and Ms. Gould held our musical auditions for Little Mermaid Jr., and we concluded our Student Council application process. We began our Friday independent reading days where everyone stops what they are doing and gets a chance to read during FLEX. I was excited to join Mrs. Wacaster's homeroom for stop, drop, and read (#sdr) with a chance to finish reading The Great Alone, by Kristin Hannah. Our football and volleyball teams got in some great games and girls basketball conditioning has continued. This week, we will officially launch our Coyotes of the Month peer nominations where our students will have a chance to recognize each other for positive character traits. The focus for September is RESPECT. We will ask our students to recognize their peers for having demonstrated respect this month. Friday, our staff had a great surprise when the Rolling Roast coffee truck showed up sponsored by Amy Merrigan with Helen Adams Realty and Mindy Rozear with First Federal Bank. Our PTO coordinated this event, and our staff truly appreciated it!
By now you have likely seen the safety concern emails from the FMSD related to the bathroom TikTok challenge that has left many of our schools, including Forest Creek, with damage to our restrooms. Friday, we had to shut down the restrooms on one entire side of our building due to vandalism/destruction related to this challenge and back flow that occurred. We have had ceiling tiles taken out of our ceilings above the stalls, toilet paper rolls shoved down into our toilets, faucets broken, soap dispensers taken, urinal cakes removed and shoved down toilets, and soap purposely spilled onto our floors. We are monitoring our bathroom use as well as reviewing camera footage to determine how and when these incidents have occurred. Our day custodian, Ms. Kathy, was injured after slipping on soap in the restroom by our gymnasium. We take these incidents seriously and thank you in advance for reminding your students to be respectful of school property and to report any suspicious activity or damage they discover in the restrooms to the nearest adult as soon as it is observed.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.
Yours In Education,
-Christine V. McNeil
It's STAR Assessment Time
Coyote Families,
We will be administering the STAR Math and STAR Reading assessments to all students this week on Tuesday, September 21st and Thursday, September 23rd during FLEX.
Students should get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast so that they are at their best for the tests. There is no way to study for these assessments. Students simply need to try their best and show what they know. STAR test results are used by teachers to help guide their instruction and ensure students are not missing gaps of information. We will administer the STAR tests again in the Winter and Spring this school year. We hope that our students show growth in their skills each time they take these assessments.

Thank You Car Riders!
Thank you to all of our students and parents who make our car rider line successful every morning and afternoon. Our number one goal is to get each of our students in and out of the building safely and efficiently. That goal is what drives the procedures we have in place. With your help, we are able to get everyone through the line in 20 minutes on average. That’s amazing! To help us maintain that level of excellence, we ask you continue to work with us by:
- Pulling as far up as possible before loading/unloading. This prevents a backup onto Whites Road, which makes it difficult/dangerous to get in and out of the parking loop.
- Staying in the single line unless directed to move into the fire lane by one of our duty staff. This eliminates the potential of accidents and keeps our students safe as they load/unload.
- Having your student ready to unload before reaching the drop-off area (the area with the awning). This keeps the line moving smoothly.
- Reminding your student to watch for your arrival at the end of the day. Again, this keeps the line moving smoothly.
Together, we have created a very effective car rider experience for parents, students, and staff. We could not do it without you!
Kindest Regards,
-Mr. Cook (Assistant Principal)
Support Our FCMS Band Program
The FCMS band kicked off their first fundraiser Friday! Students will be selling "Poppin' Popcorn" and various items from a "Holiday Delights" magazine! This is a perfect time to grab some wrapping paper before the holidays or a yummy snack to share with your family! See any band student to place an order and pay with cash or check (made out to FMDBBC). Orders can also be placed online through www.pleasehelpmyschool.com.
Each student has a seller ID that will directly support them if you order online! Online orders can be shipped directly to your house or to the school and your student can deliver it to you. If you do not know a student to ask for their seller ID, please use this ID: 76403070
The fundraiser ends on October 4th! We thank you so much for supporting our band program!
Thank you!
