AVID at MLC Needs You!
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is dedicated to preparing freshman high school students for college and other post-secondary opportunities.
AVID has expanded in Portland Public Schools and is now in over 31 schools across the district. Our freshman AVID class taught by Alan is looking for parents who are interested in being an AVID tutor on A-Days (every other day) from 8:15-9:45am. Some perks:
- You don't need to know the subject area for tutoring - you are a faciliator
- You can gain classroom experience
- You can get paid ($11-13 an hour)
- You can help MLC 9th-graders on their path to college
For more information please contact: Margarita Wilson (lwilson3@pps.net)
We look forward to having you as part of the MLC HS AVID Program!
Book Fair Gratitude
THANK YOU - to the MLC Community, Teachers, Staff, Students, Families and Book Fair Deputies & Volunteers who made our recent Book Fair a resounding success! Through your generosity you put books in classrooms, books in the Library and books in the hands of MLC students. The Book Fair raised just over $1000.00 in support of the Library. It is inspirational to see so many students enthusiastic about reading, so excited to dive into a new book, so willing to take a chance on a story recommendation.
It should come as no surprise that the #1 selling book was Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties, with Swing It, Sunny running a close second.
Books ordered online have been shipped and will be delivered as soon as they arrive. Pre-ordered copies of the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book will ship after it's release on November 7th and will be delivered once they arrive.
The Spring Book Fair runs from April 30th to May 4th, 2018. Watch for notices posted closer to those dates from The Big Dog looking for some Readers of Tail[e]s.
