Wickham Class Placement Information
The placement of children in classes is an important decision. When determining homeroom placements, we strive for continuity and balance in many areas including but not limited to gender, range of developmental stages, social mixture, and culture. Our goal is to create heterogeneous homerooms that reflect the diversity of our community. Therefore, we work through an extensive process to determine class placement for each school year. This process includes much collaboration among the principal and school staff to analyze student data while considering the many factors mentioned above to compile class lists. Honoring the decisions made by the educational professionals in regard to the class make up is extremely important.
Wickham will not accept requests for placement in a specific teacher’s classroom. Principal and staff will take into consideration information parents/guardians provide regarding specific or unique academic, behavioral, social/emotional or health related needs.
Educational Consideration Forms are available in the main office. Forms are due back by Friday, April 15th.
Sibling Match
Parents may request a teacher who taught an older sibling. These requests will be considered but will not be guaranteed. Exceptions to the “Sibling Match” requests are made by the educational team, when necessary, to maximize educational services and resources for all students.

ATTENTION ALL 6th GRADE PARENTS:
REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS FOR INCOMING 7th GRADERS
Two more vaccines are required for students entering 7th grade: a meningococcal vaccine (MCV) and a tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis booster (Tdap)
Students are NOT allowed to start 7th grade in the fall without documentation of MCV vaccine according to Iowa law.
Please check your child’s immunization record or call their health care provider to find out if they have received the Tdap booster and meningococcal vaccines (MCV) and make an appointment if needed.
These can be completed during their regular health exam, or during their sports physical (which will also be required for all athletes!)
Johnson County Public Health provides immunizations and can be reached at 319-356-6045.
If your child does not have insurance, please reach out to the Healthy Kids Clinic. Call or text 319-631-3204 to make an appointment.
If you have any questions, please contact the Wickham school nurse: hinman.pam@iowacityschools.org.

We NEED PTO Volunteers!!!
Our school depends on the supplemental funds raised by our volunteer PTO group. In order to continue to provide this supplemental funding, we need parent volunteers! Three long-time board members are retiring at the end of this school year. If we are unable to recruit new members we will no longer be able to provide the level of support that our school is used to. We are looking for volunteers to join the PTO board this summer. The PTO board meets once per month. Monthly board meetings are currently held via zoom.
The PTO provides the organizational structure and financial support for:
- Student Activities & Programs such as the Science Fair, Chess Club, Wickham's Got Talent, Lego League; Field Trips, Visiting Authors and artists.
- Classroom supplies for each classroom and each specials classroom (P.E., art, counseling, music), playground equipment, and educational technology.
- Family & Community Events and Programs such as the Fall Fun Fair, Family Movie Night, Taco Dinner & Bingo Night.
- Teacher & Staff Support such as staff appreciation events, classroom assistance, and technology enhancements.
If you are interested in joining the PTO board please email wickhampto@gmail.com or reach out to any of our current board members.
