School Library Survey
The annual CDE survey has been updated, and I would strongly encourage you to take the time to fill this out. I'll admit that I've been somewhat ambivalent about doing this in the past, but we can use this information to create a picture of library media services in our county, and then advocate for better services in light of the recent legislative audit and Torlakson's letter on school libraries.
Library of Congress Surplus Books
Did you know that you can apply to receive some of the surplus books from the Library of Congress? Mishell Rose of Bonsall West recently applied and with the help of her Congressman received quite a range of books (pictured above and here). Click here for more information. Be sure to ask your Congressman for help getting free shipping.
Professional Reading
I was browsing recent editions of the CSLA Journal recently when a conversation about school library advocacy between Mary Ann Harlan and Doug Achterman in the Summer 2016 edition caught my eye. This led me to another great article by Dianne Oberg, "Schools in Libraries: Essential Context for Studying Organization Change and Culture."
NGSS for School Libraries
With the success of my popular Common Core for School Libraries seminar, I'm delighted to announce a new counterpart, Next Generation Science Standards for School Libraries. Click here to register.
