Lead Learner Highlights
KP Families, as we enter the final week before our winter break, we also enter the mid-point of the 2nd quarter. Please be sure to check Power School with your child to discuss their progress. Please identify a plan to seek help from a teacher, if needed, and any opportunities to turn in missing or late assignments. Please encourage your child to identify opportunities to complete assignments this week so that they can enjoy the break worry free.
As we end this year and look toward the next, I want to thank you for the gift of your partnership and your support of our school community in so many ways. I wish you a restful and enjoyable vacation filled with laughter, fun and unplugged family time.
Your Partner in Education,
Joy

Chess News!
On Sunday, December 11, the King Philip chess team participated in the 2016-17 Connecticut State Scholastic Blitz Chess Championships at Kingswood Oxford School. The team won First Place in the middle school section, and was crowned the State's Middle School Blitz Chess Team Champion.
Team members were Samuel L, 6, Caitlin S, 6, and Ethan S, 6. The team played shorthanded, without a fourth score. Nevertheless, KP opened a six point lead by the end of round three and never looked back, finishing eight points ahead of second.
Individually, Sam L won thirteen out of fourteen games, taking sole possession of first place. Sam is the 2016-17 State Middle School Blitz Champion. This is Sam's third Connecticut State Champion title and fifth state title overall. Sam was the Connecticut Elementary Blitz Champion last academic year.
Meanwhile, Ethan S finished with eight wins in fourth place, and Caitlin S finished sixth with seven wins. Caitlin was one of only three girls participating in the event.
Sam will bring the team prize to school tomorrow.
Are you ready to have some fun as a family?

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
