Weekly Wildcat Newsletter - July 10
Northwestern Middle School News and Notes
Howdy Wildcat Country!
I hope everyone had a great week and is enjoying their summer! This week our district hosted a few more Back to School 2020-21 Virtual Briefings. Of particular interest to our school community was the briefing on July 8 about Individual Remote Learning for Middle School. If you did not watch the live briefing, be sure to watch the recording. You can access the recording by using the FCS Virtual Briefings link in this week's newsletter (below).
We continue to make plans for our return to face-to-face instruction. Our plans are nimble and will continue to evolve as we learn new information and think of better ways to conduct face-to-face school safely and effectively. In this newsletter you will find a FAQ that is based on questions we have received from our parent survey, from parent and staff conversations, and discussions with other schools in our community. You will undoubtedly have questions that are not addressed in this FAQ. Please plan to attend one of the two Live Q&A sessions next week hosted by Mr. Peterson. You can also email any member of our school administration who will be happy to provide you with assistance prior to the July 17 decision deadline.
Principal: Mr. Joel Peterson - petersonj1@fultonschools.org
6th grade AP: Ms. Amber Manganelli - manganellia@fultonschools.org
7th grade AP: Ms. Deana Skimel - skimel@fultonschools.org
8th grade AP: Ms. Ashley Poston - postona@fultonschools.org
One topic that continues to come up is the district's policy on face masks. The district policy has not changed. Teachers and staff are required to wear a face mask. Students are strongly encouraged to wear a face mask while in school. Face masks are expected for students who are riding a bus, since social distancing on a bus is more difficult to achieve.
Masks will not be required but will be expected for students while in school at Northwestern. Wearing a mask is a great way to demonstrate that we care about other students and staff in our school. Be KIND, wear a mask.
I look forward to meeting with you next week during our Live Q&A sessions. I hope everyone as a great weekend! Stay well!

Virtual Learning Opportunities for 2020-21
Fulton County Schools is offering an Individual Remote Learning opportunity for students in grades 1-8 and a Full-time Fulton Virtual opportunity for students in grades 9-12. These options are available for students who have an underlying health condition, a social or emotional condition, or other special or extenuating family circumstances that prevents them from safely returning to a face-to-face school environment due to COVID-19. The programs are also open to other interested families. Registration begins on June 30 and ends on July 17. These virtual options require a semester commitment (from August through December) and do not include extracurricular activities at local schools. However, virtual clubs will be offered. Click here for more information and visit www.fultonschools.org/enrollment to register your student.
