My Challenge to You

The tweet above was sent to me from none other than my wife... Mrs. @amann4edu via Twitter. Take a couple of minutes and read "The Positivity Blog" post with Calvin & Hobbs as the inspiration, you will be glad you did. What did you take away from it? Of course there are the five key points that are listed below:

  1. Look around you and appreciate your life as it is right now.
  2. Everyone has bad days.
  3. Take the time to do nothing much at all.
  4. Open up a let a friend help.
  5. Do what YOU want to do.

How do these five key points relate to you? For me they are great reminders to remember to live in the moment. Our structure as a school system is to plan, set goals, make plans about our goals, and then achieve our goals through our planning. You get the point. Rarely do we live in the moment in education. We need to stop and do more of that. Why you ask? Well why do you think? Why do you need to live in the moment as an educator?

Teaching is hard. There are standards to meet, curriculum to develop and teach, students that don't always want to learn, parents that don't always understand or agree with how we are teaching school today, time constraints, new initiatives... etc. You get the picture. Taking time to live in the moment, to use the resources around you, to realize that not everything is going to be perfect, to rely upon your team (peer content teacher or just next door teacher), and using your passion in your teaching.

When teaching becomes harder than usual be sure to use one or all of these five tips. You will be amazed at how much of a difference they will make in your day and outlook.

Think. Achieve. Succeed.

Are you looking to increase student engagement? Well of course you are. Check out Padlet.

Padlet is an app that can be used in many ways. One of them is it offers a safe way for those students that are reluctant to contribute an opportunity to do so in a more anonymous way yet still be able to participate in a meaningful way. Want to learn more? Check out the short video that has step by step instructions on how to use it. The link here has more ideas on ways to use padlet to students involved in their learning.
