SIG Yale II
Student Activities Central
Hello Parents and Friends,
Welcome to the first of our weekly Student Activities newsletters! We've had a busy, productive week here at Yale. From book store trips to yoga classes, staff talent shows to our first guest performers, your students have taken part in a variety of activities that are both educational and entertaining.
Every day this week, we have had our post-academic-day Rec Hour. Students have had the chance to go to the book store, take a yoga class, play soccer, basketball and Ultimate Frisbee, do arts and crafts, go swimming, or just hang out in Silliman's lounge area and play Foosball, pool or board games.
Our first guest performer, the National Comedy Theatre, put on a hilarious show Tuesday night. They were brilliant and engaging, and made sure to constantly include the students in their act, whether it was asking for suggestions from the audience or inviting students to join them onstage.
Last night was our Staff Talent Show -- we heard Asha, the girls' housemaster, bring the house down with a stunning rendition of "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going" from Dreamgirls. Tom, the boys' housemaster, performed a great (and SIG-related!) rap with fellow RA Conor, and many other witty and moving performances.
Tonight, we will be presenting banners that each counselor group made during their first night at camp. "Celebrity" judges (also known as our Deans and Director) will be judging the presentation based on creativity and energy, and the number of points each group earns tonight will go towards their SIG Cup total. It's still anyone's game!
Looking ahead, we will be having our SIG game show, the Brain Bowl, tomorrow night; Saturday sees our trip to the Connecticut Science Center and a movie night; and Sunday the students will dress up their counselors for SIG's version of Project Runway, followed by the Jabali African Acrobats in the evening.
Below, I have attached a selection of photos from the first few days of SIG -- keep an eye out for many more from the Banner Competition, Brain Bowl, and Getaway Trip in the next few days!
All the best,
Jon Fuller
