A Message from Mrs. Booth

Dear Silver Springs Families,

It's hard to believe that we have been teaching and learning from home for six weeks! I hope that you have settled into a routine and are finding balance. At my house, things ran a bit more smoothly this week and we are learning how to navigate our time and space with each other.

Third Marking Period Report cards were released on Tuesday, April 21st. Classroom teachers reached out to you to offer an opportunity to conference with them should you desire, after you have reviewed the report card. If you would like to schedule a conference with any of the Humanities teachers, please reach out to them via email.

The District continues to be committed to providing up to date information to all of our families as it becomes available. You can access information, updates, and FAQs via the Northville Public Schools website or at this link: NPS School Closing and COVID-19 FAQs

Technology devices are available for loan to students who do not have access. Please complete this Technology Device Checkout Form to request the use of a device. You can reach our Technology Department Help Desk at 248-344-3680 Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.

Stay safe and be well!

Katie Booth

Distance Learning PARENT/GUARDIAN Survey

Dear NPS Parents and Guardians,

As we come to the end of the second week of our emergency distance learning during this mandated school closure, we would like to gather some feedback on how the plan is working from the lens of students, parent and teachers (6-12 students and all teachers will complete a separate survey). Your feedback will help us determine if any plan adjustments are needed.

Northville Public School Distance Learning PARENT/GUARDIAN Survey

A separate 6-12 student survey is being sent to all students in grades 6-12. Please remind your 6th-12th grader to check their northvilleschools.net email to complete their survey.

Thank you in advance for taking this short survey.

Aaron Baughman

Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Services

Spring Conferences

Traditionally our spring conferences are our Student-Led Conferences. Unfortunately, this year, we will be unable to hold student-led conferences in the way that we usually do. Therefore, classroom teachers will be reaching out to you to offer an opportunity to conference with them should you desire to set up a time to speak with them.

If you would like to speak with any of the humanities or support teachers please email the specific teacher to set up a day and time to meet with them.

"The Day the Crayons Quit: HOME EDITION!"

Mrs. Kreiss has created a sing-along version of the 3rd grade concert. Please check the 3rd grade page of her Google Classroom (lptdblg) for the explanation/directions and the YouTube link. Be sure to read all the way to the end for an exciting Facebook opportunity!

It's Kindergarten Registration Time!!!

Daddy Daughter Dance Update from the PTA

We know many are disappointed about the Golden Gala being missed this year. Our DDD is such an enjoyable and memorable event for our Silver Springs girls. We hope you were able to take some time to dance, take fun photos, or do a fun activity with someone special this weekend.

No checks have been deposited for those that had turned in DDD slips before school was closed. When the office reopens for the public, your checks can be returned or simply shredded. We will keep you updated if there are any new developments to the dance.

We hope you are all well and staying healthy which is the most important thing.

Pandemic Free and Reduced Program Notice

We are aware that many families may be experiencing a reduction or loss of income due to pandemic closures in our community and state. Please know that Northville Public Schools continues to accept applications for Free/ Reduced meal benefits until June. You can apply online on the Northville Public Schools website or if you need a paper application, they can be picked up at Northville High School on Tuesday or Friday between 9 am and 12 pm. Paper applications may be returned at the same location during those times as well.

At this time, the State of Michigan is providing extra benefits to students that qualify for Free/Reduced price meals in the form of Pandemic EBT benefits (see attached flyer). If you submit an F/R application by May 8th, and your benefit eligibility status changes to free or reduced, you will be eligible for Pandemic EBT Benefits. The benefit will be $5.70 per day per child, for each of your family members 18 years of age or younger, or enrolled in a special education program 26 years of age or younger. Applications approved before the end of June will be effective for the first 30 days of the 2020-2021 school year.

We strongly encourage you to apply if your family situation has changed, or you haven’t applied in the past. Please contact Carrie Morfino at morfinoca@northvilleschools.org for further information or questions.

Silver Springs Playground is Closed

We completely understand that the Stay at Home order issued by our Governor during this challenging time is extremely difficult for you and our students, and that part of our being as humans is socializing with each other. As part of the order, Governor Whitmer has encouraged families and individuals to get outside, take walks, etc., but the order does not allow for large gatherings, or gatherings at parks and playgrounds, which includes on our school playgrounds.

In accordance with the Governor’s Stay Safe. Stay Home. Executive Order, and by Order of the Oakland County Health Division, Northville Public Schools has closed all of our school playgrounds and fields, including ALL play structures. Student safety and well being is at the forefront of all we do for our students both at Silver Springs and across Northville Public Schools. We are asking you to do everything you can to slow the spread. We appreciate your help in keeping each other safe and healthy.

The Northville Public Library and Library Cards

As learning is shifting online, Northville District Library is able to help students with library cards. If your child's library card is expired, they don't know their PIN number, or don't yet have a card, the library can help. Reach out to Ms. Bartone at cbartone@northvillelibrary.org The Northville Library also offers ebooks and audiobooks. For a complete list of all of the library services, please visit their website northvillelibrary.org.

Medical Mask and Supportive Art Update - Thank you for Everything!

Dear NPS School Community,

Weeks ago four health care providers from our community, Dr. Vidooshi Maru, Dr. Anita Sinha, Dr. Melissa Heinen, and P.A. Bindiya Nandwana came together to stand in the gap for our Health Care Providers. NPS Elementary Principals put out a request for sewists, families, and crafters to make mask covers and face shields, and to donate gloves, medical grade masks, sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity. Your donations have resulted in thousands of useful items that were gratefully accepted by health care providers, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and front line workers in other industries as well, such as grocery stores, and restaurants. Thank you, Northville community, for your support.

At this time we are gratefully suspending the project as we have met the most pressing needs in our community. On behalf of our Health Care Providers, our frontline and essential workers, thank you to the community of home sewists, fabric workers, drapers, upholsterers, crafters, and families. To those of you who contributed materials and time, we thank you. Your handiness and skill have truly made a difference! You are ESSENTIAL!

Thank you,

Northville Elementary School Principals
