Shark Scoop
November 2022
Principal, Mr. Marker
Dear Naples Park Families,
The Month of Thanks is upon us, and we have a lot to be thankful for here at the Shark Strong school. The outpouring of support our staff and community showed for one another in response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian was incredible. It was amazing to see the altruism in people as we came together to restore and rebuild. I am also very thankful for the amazing family turnout we had for our 1st Annual Standards Parade this past Monday. Hundreds of grown-up Sharks got to enjoy watching our student Sharks show off their creativity in costuming around a standard they are learning as they paraded around the school. ABC7 news even got involved with our October 31st fun: https://vimeo.com/766320400
Moving forward, November promises to be a time to honor NPE traditions both new and classic. On November 11th, Veterans Day, we will be holding our 1st Annual “Bring a Veteran to School” Day. Students and staff are encouraged to invite Veterans and their families in for a special assembly to Honor our Heroes. Then later in the month, our PTO will be sponsoring one of NPE’s wonderful traditions as we celebrate our Thanksgiving Banquet on Thursday, November 17th. Interested volunteers are encouraged to reach out to our PTO if you would like to help.
As we have moved into the second quarter of learning, we are proud of our students and teachers for the positive learning trends happening around this Fintastic place. We have improved in all academic data points from the same time last year. Shark Student Leaders of the Month, Shark Student Pulitzer Writing Awards, Shark Reading Awards and more are all going out monthly to academic and leadership exemplars. We have also transitioned our “A” Magical Time Machine theme music into the 90s as we celebrate our historic school’s 50th Birthday.
It is good to be at Naples Park Elementary School and together, we are Shark Strong.
Sincerely,
Christopher Marker
Principal of the Naples Park Sharks

Students Names on Sweaters/Jackets, Water Bottles & Lunch Boxes
As we get into the cooler months, please make sure to write on the tag or your child’s sweater/jacket their first name and last name initial. Many students leave their sweaters/jackets in different locations (recess, lunch, etc. ) and we want to make sure we can return it to the correct student. Please do the same for water bottles and lunch boxes.

Bring a Veteran to School Day- November 11th
In honor of Veterans Day, on Friday, November 11, we are celebrating our
1st annual “Bring a Veteran to School Day” by asking our students to bring
a Veteran to our opening assembly in their honor. The assembly will begin
at 8:45 am and end around 9:15 am. If your child is bringing a Veteran Hero
or active-duty Hero, please complete the attached form below and return this form to help us plan for seating.
Also, please feel free to send your child to school showing off their red,
white, and blue Americana outfits in an effort to honor present and past
members of the armed services. Many staff here will be doing the same,
showing off their red, white, and blue in honor of our Veterans.
School Counselor, Mrs. Johnson
We had a Fintastic Red Ribbon Week. Thank you to everyone who dressed up!
We also had two Shark Leader of the Month Ceremonies in the month of October. It was an honor to celebrate our students who demonstrated excellence in the areas of Citizenship and Respect. In November, we will be focusing on Responsibility, which fits well with Habit 1: Be Proactive.
In our guidance lessons this month, we are focusing on different coping skills. Coping skill help us to regulate our emotions, which helps us to make good decisions in and out of school and take Responsibility for our words and actions.
Thanks,
Candace Johnson

Literacy Coach, Mrs. Szarek
Hello NPE Sharks,
Readers are Leaders! NPE students continue to Put First Things First by staying focused on their reading goals. Our NPE sharks have done a FIN-tastic job of consistently meeting the school goal of an 80% lesson pass rate or higher on iReady. Our WIG Leaders have been busy tracking their data in the NPE WIG Walkway. Our students take ownership in their learning by using a Leadership Notebook to help them reflect, set, and celebrate their academic goals.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s learning.
Sincerely,
Darlene Szarek
NPE’s Reading Coach
Kindergarten News
Kindergarten has been hard at work. Kindergarten will continue to learn about the parts of a story (Characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.) We also will begin our unit on Community helpers. This month kindergarten will celebrate the 50th day of school on November 2nd. We are so excited to have a grade level sock hop, that will include rootbeer floats. We will practice counting to 50 by ones and tens. This month we will also prepare as a grade level to perform at the Thanksgiving Banquet.
