Back to School - Fall 2023

Welcome Back, Park Avenue Families!

September 1, 2023

Dear Families,

Welcome to a new school year! We are excited to welcome our returning students and families, as well as our students and families who are new to the Park Avenue School Community. As we begin a new school year together, please know each and every staff members are committed to our school vision of being a learner centered school! We are committed to ensuring each of our students feels connected and supported in our school community.

Each of our classroom teachers, support staff members, and administrators have been working hard to plan and prepare for an exciting and successful school year. Not only will our dedicated staff continue to focus on increasing and supporting student growth and achievement, we will continue to implement a strong and consistent delivery of curriculum in the classroom to best meet the needs of all learners.

In addition to welcoming our parents and families to participate in school events and activities, this year our focus will also be on sharing opportunities for parents and families to increase engagement through classroom activities and school-wide events.

As always, strong and consistent communication is important in building a successful connection between home and school. Frequent newsletters and school updates will be sent home through email and online, and up to date information will always be available on our school website. We will also be using an app called Class Tag. Your child’s teacher will be sharing more information with you about this easy-to-use communication tool. In addition to these communication methods, Park Avenue has several social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram). You can find information about “following” us on our website and in upcoming newsletters

Each new school year brings about positive change! This year we are welcoming several new classroom teachers and support staff members to our school staff.

Please join me in welcoming our new staff:

  • Miss Samantha Martineau, 1st Grade Teacher

  • Mrs. Marni Smith, 5th Grade Teacher

  • Mrs. Young-Gomes, 5th Grade Teacher

  • Mrs. Kim Gendron, Reading Recovery Teacher

  • Mrs. Lisa Kurtz, Special Ed Team Leader

  • Mrs. Cindy Smith, School Counselor

  • Miss Ledan Iman, Spurwink Counselor

In addition to welcoming new staff members to our school community, there have been several changes in staff positions here within the building:

  • Ms. Angela Stubbs will be teaching 5th Grade

  • Miss Rebecca Raymond will be teaching 2nd Grade

Arrival and dismissal procedures will continue in the same way as last year. As with last year, we are asking that you remain in your vehicle for both arrival and dismissal. This helps to ensure a smooth and quick process for everyone. We will continue to monitor these procedures and will make adjustments as needed.

  • Doors open at 8:00 → School starts at 8:25

  • Dismissal for all students is at 3:00

We are excited to welcome our Park Avenue family and friends back into our school community. All visitors to the building will need to check in at the front office to follow our visitor protocol. We have an intercom system at the front door. Please ring the bell and the secretary will help to guide you.

As we begin this year, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, or to make a connection. I am excited to be starting another new year here at Park Avenue!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stephanie Marris
