Last week at Advantage Arts

Last Thursday we were able to have LeUyen Pham present to Advantage Arts Academy during an assembly. LeUyen is a prolific illustrator of over 120 books, a New York Times best seller, a Caldecott award winner, and one of the most respected and sought-after illustrators in the children's book business. The students enjoyed listening to how she got to where she is and how hard she worked to get there. They were also able to see her draw some illustrations of some of our students as cartoon animals. It was a honor to see her create this illustrations right in front of our eyes.

What Lifts You School Mural

For the first several weeks of school we have been working together to create an inspiring school mural. We learned about the artist Kelsey Montague and looked at her murals of painted wings on buildings. She always posts the question, "What lifts you?" next to the giant wings. We thought about that question and how we could also work to lift others to create a positive environment at our school. Each student drew and decorated an individual feather that we will put all together to make giant wings . This will be displayed at our school and students can stand in front of the wings to look like they have wings to help them fly to new heights.
