Administrators' Update
Carnival Fun!
We are so pleased that over 400 people were able to come out and enjoy the Spring Carnival put on by our Parent Council and their many volunteers! A huge thank you goes out to this dedicated crew who worked tirelessly to put this event on. It is a wonderful way to come together as a community and we thank you all for making it possible.
Kindness Rocks!
A special thanks to our Youth Access West class for clearning our garden around our flag pole in the front of the school. They are creating a beautiful location for our over 600 Kindness Rocks that students will lay out in celebration of our whole school Kindness Rocks project that has been ongoing throughout the school year! This literacy/art project with author/illustrator Peggy Collins has been a joint sponsored project with the Limestone Learning Foundation, Parent Council and the school. We can't wait to see the finished product and to have a visual reminder that 'kind thoughts, kind words, kind actions' are the expected culture at Southview.
In Sports!
Our spring events are in full force with one Junior basketball tounament under our belt last week and two more to go this week! Our students always make us proud with their positive attitude, sportsmanship and skill and we look forward to sharing photos out with our community. We are looking forward to hosting the first ever "Home" Southview track and field day for grades 3-8 at our own school on May 16th! Students have been practicing events during phys-ed time and we look forward to all students participating in this physical education culminating activity. For all students, the emphasis is on effort, participation and sportmanship. For some, this will be the start of their track & field season as we will be taking qualifying athletes to the Regional Meet at Invista on June 5th. These details will be coming home with students who qualify for events.
Flag football and Ultimate Frisbee teams for intermediate students are just beginning their season and we will update their progress as the season continues! Go Lynx!
Staffing for September 2019
This is a busy time of year for school staff as we work through the process of determining classroom organizations and teacher/ECE assignments for the 2019/20 school year. At this time, we are able to share with you that our school has been approved for 25 classrooms for next year. This is based on projected enrolment for the fall and is therefore subject to change based on actual enrolment in September. More information about the organization and staffing of these classrooms will be shared with you in June.
Are you Moving?
Please let us know if you are moving and will not be returning to our school in September. Please also encourage anyone you know who is moving into our school area to be sure to register at the office before the end of June. This information greatly assists us in building our classes for the 2019/20 school year.
Busing at Southview
We have over 14 buses that transport students each day to and from school. As always, students are reminded that riding the bus is a priviledge. We encourage families to go over the expectations of riding the bus found HERE. Students who are not able to follow the expectations, and who are unsafe on the bus, will possibly have their bus privilege temporarily suspended. All students are entitled to a safe ride to and from school. We thank you in advance for helping us work with our children to create a safe environment on the school bus.
School Day Payments & Permissions
With over 92% participation rate at Southview, it's time to celebrate! Due to the success of having families sign up for our online payment and permissions program, we are going to be giving every child at Southview a free slice of pizza! Grade 3-8 will get their pizza on May 16th during the Track and Field day, while K-2 will get their free pizza on Wednesday, May 22nd! Thank you to LDSB and School Day for providing this incentive to us!
A final note...
The next 8 weeks will roll by quickly, as they always do at this time of year. We look forward to continuing to support your child in their academic, social and emotional growth to become their best self. It takes a strong partnership between home and school, all working together, for students to achieve their best. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership. At Southview this year, our hashtag as been #WeAreOne, and as One, we can achieve anything.
Together in Education,

We Walk for Water
On Friday May 10th, Southview’s Me to We group is hosting a We Walk for Water campaign. With every $25.00 raised, a person will receive clean water for life. Each division will be walking up to 5 kilometres carrying a variety of weight to represent the challenges many people face around the world. Your child will be experiencing the challenge of accessing clean water. Clean water is a basic human right, but more than 800 million people do not have access to it. When communities have access to clean water, girls can attend school, parents can run sustainable farms and families can lead healthier lives.
If you would like to donate, there are a variety of ways this year. To donate online, visit the website crowdrise.com/southview2019 which will take you directly to our school’s fundraising page. You may also donate using the pledge form and lastly this year we will be selling Water Rafiki bracelets!
Each Water Rafiki is $10.00 and they are blue. If you would like to purchase a Rafiki please return the order form sent home. We will be placing the bracelet order Monday, May 13th so please have orders in no later.
Students will be walking rain or shine so remember to dress appropriately the day of the event!
Sincerely; Southview's Me to We team

Tick Season
The warmer weather means it's once again tick season in Ontario. We encourage you to do a daily "tick check" on your children especially when they have been playing outside in the grass or wooded areas. There are many helpfu lresources that provide information on how to avoid tick bites and how to remove ticks from yourself or pets. Check our "Lyme Disease" at www.ontario.ca/page/lyme-disease.
