Reflection Corner

Last Sunday's Gospel: Luke 17:1-6

Jesus said to his disciples,

"Things that cause sin will inevitably occur,
but woe to the one through whom they occur.
It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck
and he be thrown into the sea
than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.
Be on your guard!
If your brother sins, rebuke him;
and if he repents, forgive him.
And if he wrongs you seven times in one day
and returns to you seven times saying, 'I am sorry,'
you should forgive him."

And the Apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."
The Lord replied, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
you would say to this mulberry tree,
'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."

Reflection:

Which of the directives that Jesus gives in last Sunday's Gospel most speaks to you? How can you use that to direct your day?

Prayer:

Jesus, you are here for me. I know you are. And yet…I can’t help but feel some helplessness in the face of the temptations that face me. Walk with me, guide me, and strengthen me.

We welcome Mrs. Viray's 3A Homeroom leading us with the Glorious Mysteries this week. The color of the shirts is based on a campaign started by Travis Price and David Shepherd. These two students took a stand for a fellow student who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

Come see The Third Wave on the following days:

Friday, November 9th, 7pm

Saturday, November 10th, 7 pm

Friday, November 16th, 7 pm

Saturday, November 17th, 7 pm

Mercy High School Theatre, 3250-19th Avenue, San Francisco

Mercy’s Visual & Performing Arts Department announces its 2018 fall play, The Third Waveby Ron Jones and Joseph Robinette. The Third Wave, based on high school teacher Ron Jones’ experiment in fascism, illustrates what happens to a teacher’s good intentions as his simulation rages out of his control in a matter of days. The time is 1967; the setting is a Palo Alto history class with the Vietnam War, racial integration and social revolution simmering in the background. This play, as well as numerous film and musical versions, remain popular around the world, especially in Germany and Israel.

We are very thrilled to have Mr. Ron Jones himself playing the older version of himself in the play (the now wiser old man who looks back on himself as a 22-year-old new teacher) as he watches and comments on the events of the six-day experiment. Mr. Jones will be available for the talk back after the performance. Also, all participating schools will receive a packet of lesson plans developed by the Holocaust Center and the Farkas Center.
