The LaCrosse Play-by-Play
News from Mrs. LaCrosse's 2nd Grade Classroom
Hello, Families!
I hope you had a wonderful week!
Please ask your child:
Reading
- What books are in your book box?
- Tell me about read-to-self time. Where do you choose to read? What are the expectations during this time?
- What did you read about this week?
- Tell me about fiction v. nonfiction. Tell me about the sort you did with the class.
- What are some nonfiction text features (table of contents, glossary, index, bold words, italics, etc.)? How do they help you?
Writing
- You learned about punctuation this week. What did you learn (capital letters, end punctuation)? When do you use capital letters?
- Tell me about transition words (first, next, then, last, etc.).
- Mrs. LaCrosse shared the Narrative rubric with you today. Tell me what second graders are expected to do (write across several pages, have a good beginning--middle--end, have an interesting beginning and ending, use punctuation appropriately).
- What is one of the "seed moments" you are working on (ONE time you did something...ex., when I caught my first fish INSTEAD of a "watermelon moment" like a trip to Wisconsin that included fishing).
Math
- What is a line plot? How does it help mathematicians?
- What did you do to learn about line plots (plotting # of letters in name, rolling dice and plotting the number that showed up)?
- How can you create a line plot? Can you create questions about your line plot?
