7th Grade Scheduling Newsletter
2019-2010 School Year
It is time to start working on 7th grade schedules!
7th grade is an exciting time--moving to a new building, meeting new teachers, having more independence, and following a schedule!
The course requests are very important in helping us plan and put together the master schedule, as well as individual student schedules, for the 2019-2020 school year. Many course descriptions can be found in the 2019-2020 Course Catalog, click the button at the bottom of the newsletter.
The 2019-2020 Course Request is on ParentsWeb.
- This online Course Request will be active February 4th to March 8th.
- Simply log into your ParentsWeb account and look for the Course Request tab in the toolbar under Student Information.
- The Course Request will list required classes, and it will have the elective options for 7th grade.
- Course Requests must be submitted by March 8th.
- As long as the Course Request is active on ParentsWeb, you can make changes.
- Students with ParentsWeb accounts may also be able to go in and make changes to the course request, so PLEASE communicate with your child so that everyone is on the same page. If you and your child are not seeing eye-to-eye on electives, please communicate with the counseling office directly.
Since some parents may be brand new to how the scheduling process works, here are some important things to note:
- There are 7 class periods in the school day.
- Students are placed in classes by random assignment. Parent and student requests to be in classes, or not be in classes, with specific individuals will not be honored.
- If your child is trying out for basketball, the coaches will send out information about tryouts later.
- In order to take Band in the 7th grade, your child must have taken Band with Mrs. Teeling in Middle School. This is NOT a Beginners Band class.
- Band is an 8th hour class that begins at 3:35 p.m. If you have questions about this, please speak with Mrs. Teeling.
- After Course Requests are submitted, the administration works on the "master schedule." This takes a lot of time as there are many, many factors to consider in putting together a master schedule incorporating 6 grade levels with 20+ teachers who teach full schedules.
- You will know the order of your child's classes and the teachers of those classes in August (date TBD) when schedules are made available through ParentsWeb.
- Later in the semester, Mrs. Piraino (K-8 School Counselor) will be speaking to the 6th grade about what they can expect in the 7th grade, as well as giving them a tour of the building, in an effort to make this a smooth transition "moving across the street."
I hope this newsletter helps answer your questions. Please log into your ParentsWeb account and complete the Course Request by March 8th.
Many Blessings,
Mrs. Breeding
