Guatemala 2018
There's room for YOU!

Woods Charter School will again send a student group to Guatemala for week of service-learning with our partner non-profit, From Houses to Homes.
From Houses to Homes is based in Antigua, Guatemala, and builds houses each week with the help and financial support of volunteers. Other projects include a school and a health clinic. This work benefits the rural indigenous communities of the highlands of the country, who live with limited resources and discrimination, and lack access to basic services.
Our student group will be based in Antigua in a safe, comfortable house with modern amenities. Work days will start early with a truck ride to the job site, and involve all the tasks of building a modest cinderblock house: digging, hauling, lifting, painting, and more.
We will also take time for a weekend of sightseeing, exploring the Spanish colonial capital of Antigua, the volcanic Lake Atitlan, Mayan villages, and other iconic places along the way.
Be ready for adventure!

FAQs
High school students in grades 10-12.
Will we miss school?
You will miss four days of school, and be responsible for making up all work.
What if I don't speak Spanish?
That's okay!
Why is it so expensive?
The cost includes travel, housing, food, excursions, trip insurance, a $500 donation to FHTH for building supplies for the house you will build, and a contribution to offset the cost of the chaperone expenses.
Is there fundraising for student costs?
The most productive fundraisers are usually the individual appeals students initiate. The group can coordinate a fundraising effort as well.
How do I sign up?
A deposit of $750 is due by December 8 to secure a spot.
