Principal's Message - Garden Reopening
After months of hard work, this week our Garden Volunteers welcomed students into our newly reconstructed school garden. Each class has signed up to be caretakers of individual boxes in this space.. Already, several boxes and areas have been filled. The fourth grade classes have created a native plants space in the garden. This ties into all that they are learning about California. Our TK and Kindergarten students have a dedicated space to make an ever-evolving fairy garden. Mrs. Price's class has planted a box full of strawberries. In the next couple weeks, our remaining classes will start growing even more fruits and vegetables including: tomatoes, radishes, squash, cucumbers, and fresh herbs. By our return in the fall, we look forward to incorporating the fresh produce into our food service program.
I extend my genuine thanks to our volunteers who were awarded a substantial grant from the Women's Fund of El Dorado to make this project possible. These volunteers have put in many hours of work into rebuilding the boxes and creating an outdoor classroom within this space. We look forward to learning and growing with our Pinewood garden for years to come.
