Principal's Message - Garden Reopening

Dear Falcon Families,

After months of hard work, this week our Garden Volunteers welcomed students into our newly reconstructed school garden. Each class has signed up to be caretakers of individual boxes in this space.. Already, several boxes and areas have been filled. The fourth grade classes have created a native plants space in the garden. This ties into all that they are learning about California. Our TK and Kindergarten students have a dedicated space to make an ever-evolving fairy garden. Mrs. Price's class has planted a box full of strawberries. In the next couple weeks, our remaining classes will start growing even more fruits and vegetables including: tomatoes, radishes, squash, cucumbers, and fresh herbs. By our return in the fall, we look forward to incorporating the fresh produce into our food service program.

I extend my genuine thanks to our volunteers who were awarded a substantial grant from the Women's Fund of El Dorado to make this project possible. These volunteers have put in many hours of work into rebuilding the boxes and creating an outdoor classroom within this space. We look forward to learning and growing with our Pinewood garden for years to come.

With Appreciation,

Kim Little

California State Testing - Third and Fourth Grade Only

Our third and fourth graders will be taking the California Smarter Balance English Language Arts and Math assessments between April 26th and May 7th. As part of this computer-based test, students will need to use headphones or earbuds. While we will provide students with this listening equipment, they are welcome to use their own from home.

Please note, in the coming week the school will be reaching out to our distance learning families with students in these grades to schedule times for the student to come onto campus to take these tests. Distance Learning students will take these assessments in a separate classroom with a single staff member present to administer and proctor the test.
