What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

Our new spelling rule this week was the sounds of 'ow'. In grammar, we learned how to use we and us properly in a sentence. Before winter break, we read Watch Out Ronald Morgan! and made a story web about our own Super Kid Glasses since Ronald Morgan got new glasses. This week, we had so much fun writing our stories about finding a pair of glasses and finding out they have super powers! The biggest change in our class is that the morning message is now being written in cursive. This will allow us to learn how to read in cursive. We even did the beginning strokes of cursive as well in our new handwriting books! Also, we began Unit 7 in vocabulary. We are back into our literacy routines!

Math

This week, we reviewed subtraction with borrowing. We remembered everything we learned before winter break! We played a fun math basketball game to review and took a quiz. Then, we began learning about subtracting with money. The most important thing we learned when subtracting money is to not forget the dollar sign and decimal point!

Science

Science was a blast this week as we continued to learn about rocks. We had our rock museum and loved using magnifying glasses to observe and investigate all the rock collections our classmates brought in. We also learned about how igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks are forms. We had so much fun creating a LAYER cookie bar to understand that sedimentary rocks show layers! Also, we watched a couple great videos on how rocks are formed!

Hebrew

Dear 2nd grade parents,

Welcome back! It is wonderful to see all the smiling faces back at school.

Our Hebrew cursive letter was ז (ZAYIN) with the following words:

Move זָז , duckאַוָּז , tailָזָנָב , earsאָזְנַיִם , a flyזְבוּב .

Here is a great resource for learning more Hebrew at home:
