MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS

Dear Fairview Families,

It is hard to believe that we have just over one week left in the 2021/2022 school year! This time of year is both exciting and emotional for us at Fairview. Our students and staff are looking forward to the fun and meaningful end of year events including our Spring Chorus Concert that was rescheduled for Monday, May 23rd at 6:30 pm, Field Day on Tuesday, May 24th, and the 5th Grade Picnic on Thursday, May 26th. After Memorial Day weekend, our final day of student attendance will be on Tuesday, May 31st. We will hold our annual 5th Grade Clap Out on this date where our 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders as well as the Fairview staff will line the halls and clap for the 5th graders as they exit school for the last time. This tradition is a great way to show them our appreciation for all they’ve accomplished in their years at Fairview. Parents of 5th grade students are welcome to line up outside the 3rd grade door to cheer our 5th graders on as they leave Fairview for the last time as students. Seeing our 5th graders move on to middle school is bittersweet. While we are so happy for all they’ve accomplished, we will miss having them with us each day. Similarly, we will miss all of our staff who will be retiring at the end of this school year. Please join me in thanking and showing appreciation for instructional assistants Elin Lonergan and Yvonne Wright and Kids Corner Director, Cindy Bartnicki. These three fantastic educators have made such a positive difference in the lives of our students and staff. We wish them well as they enter this new chapter of their lives, but will also miss working alongside them next school year.

Last Friday, the Fairview community had the privilege of participating in the PTO Fun Fair for the first time since early March of 2020. We moved the event outdoors this year and we had a perfect evening being together! Thanks to all the families and volunteers who attended and helped make it such a success. Special thanks to Casey and Fred Marsh for their leadership as they chaired the Fun Fair committee and played an integral role in organizing and planning for the event, and thanks to all of the committee members for leading various aspects of the event. The students had such a great time and will remember this experience for years to come. On the heels of the Fun Fair and as we head into the final week of this school year, I want to take a moment to thank our wonderful PTO Board for their leadership. Please join me in acknowledging and thanking Zanna Biasi and Nicole Dufkis (co-Presidents), Audrey Canavino and Jacki Kochanski (co-Vice Presidents), Carolyn Schneider (Secretary) and Dianne Malara (Treasurer) for their service and leadership. This group has been incredibly devoted to helping make Fairview a great place for our students, have put in countless hours volunteering and planning, and have truly been a pleasure to partner with this school year. We are so fortunate to have had such a dedicated group of parent leaders serving on our PTO Board!

As mentioned last week, our Fairview Student Council, in partnership with the Fairview PTO, is going to use some of the funds they’ve raised during the school year to treat all students to a Kona Ice treat on Friday, May 27th. The students felt that this would be a good way to celebrate a successful school year, and I agree! In order to participate, all students must have the following digital permission form completed. Please take a moment to fill out this form to let us know whether or not your child has permission to participate. You will need to fill this form out multiple times if you have more than one child at Fairview. If we don’t have a permission form filled out, your child will not be able to enjoy the Kona Ice treat, so please take a moment now to fill it out by Tuesday, May 24th. Thank you for your help! Enjoy the weekend ahead and we look forward to seeing our students again on Monday

Sincerely,

Dan Ophus

Fairview Principal

ARE YOU MOVING OUT OF DISTRICT 57?

If your child will not be returning to Fairview School next year (or continuing on to Lincoln Middle School as a 6th grader), please contact Carolyn Young in the front office at cyoung@d57.org as soon as possible. We are beginning to make plans for the 2022-2023 school year so would appreciate this information. Thank you for responding to this important request.

PTO BIRTHDAY BOOKS - LAST WEEK

If your child is celebrating a birthday this month or has celebrated a birthday since the beginning of this school year, please have them go onto ClassLink on their chrome book and go to the Birthday Book link or click on the graphic to access the link. They must choose a book that is on the Google document listing all the grade level books. Don't forget to pick the appropriate grade level tab.

If your student hasn't selected a book, please remind them to make their selection as next week is the last week.
