Jarrell Elementary Newsletter - October 30, 2023
Greetings JES Community!
We have so much to be grateful for at Jarrell Elementary and with the passing of Brooklynn MIller,
we are reminded that each and every one of our students are precious gifts. Let her life serve as a reminder to strive to be kind, creative and thoughtful. Whether you and your family personally knew her or not, times like these can be emotional. We are here for staff, students and our community with additional support on campus this week. Please let us know if we can support you or your student.
As always, we are to help in any way we can. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
With gratitude,
Lara Hutchinson
Proud Jarrell Elementary Principal

1st Choir Concerts of the year - HUGE Success!
Our 1st, 3rd and 4th grade students had an absolute blast performing for their families on Friday! Jarrell Elementary music teacher, Tiffany Fisher, makes music so much fun. She brings math, science and reading into the music classroom as well as a love for music.
Thank you, Mrs. Fisher, for an awesome performance and thank you to all of our parents who were able to join us!
Stay tuned for the other grade level performances throughout the year!

PRE-K
This week in pre-k we will be learning that eating healthy means eating from the five food groups everyday, eating involves all of our senses such as taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing, and eating nutritious foods is a healthy habit. In math, we will be learning that objects can be sorted and categorized by attribute and can be compared by likenesses and differences. In literacy, we will be learning that words can be segmented and blended by syllables, each letter has an upper- and lowercase form and name, and two words can be combined to form a compound word.
KINDER
1st GRADE
2nd GRADE
In math we will be continuing our unit on place value, counting up to 1,200, and comparing numbers. In reading (skills) we will be reading tales from our reader and focusing on using the text to help us answer questions. We will be learning about contractions as well. We are starting to hear about stories from the War of 1812 in knowledge. In science we will be learning about landforms.
3rd GRADE
Another great week is ahead for third grade! In reading this week we will be practicing the skill of key ideas and key details through learning more about our body systems, specifically the nervous system. We will also be hitting the halfway point in our third reading unit, so they will have their mid module reading assessment on Wednesday. In math, we will be starting our new unit, Multiplication and Division with Units of 0, 1, 6-9, and Multiples of 10. In Social Studies, we will be learning about maps as well as creating them!
4th GRADE
Fourth graders will continue learning and practicing multiplication strategies in math and in science we are continuing exploring types of energy. In language arts we will be using nonfiction text about the American Revolution to practice our context clues and inferencing skills. Finally, in social studies we will read about the European explorers that first explored Texas.
5th GRADE
In ELAR we will continue reading about the Maya and Aztec civilizations. Students will write informational texts and contrast and compare the two people groups. This week in math we will be working on decimal division using the pictorial method.
In science this week, we are delving into the world of sedimentary rocks in our curriculum. Your children will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating process of how these rocks are formed.
We had a super-fun time this week celebrating Red Ribbon week. Our theme this year is "Be Kind to your Mind." We learned all about making healthy and safe choices for our mind, and body. Our Adopt-a-school soldier came by to kick-off our week. Our students had a blast participating in dress up days and they certainly enjoyed seeing JES staff participate as well. Thank you for your support in making events like this one a success.
Just a friendly reminder that as the JES counselor, I am always available should you have any questions or concerns related to your child.
