All students (K-5) will have the opportunity to work through the inquiry design process with hands-on experiences applied to solve real-world problems. Students will design a solution, solve a problem or answer a question and and spark a lifelong interest in discovery.

P.E. News
Each trimester, all students will be assessed in their engagement, personal responsibility and the ability to throw overhand using proper form.
The student friendly definition of engagement that we have used with all students is a “high level of focus, attention and effort.” If a student demonstrates a high level of focus, attention and effort (engagement) all of the time the student would earn a “M” for meeting this standard on the progress report.
The student friendly definition of personal responsibility that we have used with all students is “the ability to stay positive and react appropriately.” If a student demonstrates the ability to stay positive and react appropriately (personal responsibility) all of the time the student would earn a “M” for meeting this standard on the progress report.
The overhand throw has five essential components for a mature pattern. The following components make up a mature throwing pattern;
Side to target (turn body)
Arm back and extended
Step with opposite foot
Rotate hips
Follow through across body
A third grade student is required to demonstrate three of these five components, a fourth grade student is required to have all five components, and a fifth grade student is required to have all five components using a variety of throwing objects. If a student is able to demonstrate the required components the student would earn a “M” for meeting this standard of the progress report.
In trimester 2 ONLY, students will be assessed on their ability to dribble a basketball with control. Dribbling with control has five essential components. The five essential components of dribbling with control are;
knees bent
opposite foot forward when dribbling in space
finger pads contact ball
ball is kept at waist or below
eyes and head up(not looking at the ball)
A third grade student is required to demonstrate three of these five components, a fourth grade student is required to have all five components and increase and decrease speed and a fifth grade student is required to have all five components during 1-on-1 practice tasks. If a student is able to demonstrate the required components the student would earn a “M” for meeting this standard of the progress report.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact any P.E. Teacher.

Dear Parents:
The fifth grade musical this year is “The Trial of the Big, Bad Wolf”. The shows music and style is set in the “rock and roll” 50’s. It presents a comical version of what might happen had the Big, Bad Wolf been on trial for his offenses. This light-hearted musical is full of fun and laughs for the whole family.
The show is Wednesday, April 10, 2019 for Cast A at 8:30am for the school and 7:00pm for parents and relatives. Cast A classes are Mr. Nitz, Mrs. Poulakas, Ms. Fried, and Mrs. Richardson.
Cast B will perform on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 8:30am for the school and 7:00pm for parents and relatives. Cast B classes are Mr. Roy, Ms. Margolis, and Mrs. Champney.
The last few weeks have been very exciting in drama class! Students made up commercials of products of the 1950’s that would be used by our characters. A few of these commercials have been picked to be part of our 5th grade musical.
In the weeks to follow we will be practicing our lines, learning songs, making scenery and getting our costumes together. (More to follow on costumes) Students should be memorizing their lines and practicing at home as well as in class. Thank you in advance for your support with that.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns:
eberichon@glenview34.org or (847) 657-2335.
Sincerely,
Eileen Berichon, Drama Director
