Assistant Principal’s Message
WRCS families,
2023 is off to a great start! Over the past month, students have participated in amazing learning experiences. Our kindergarten classes visited the public library, our junior high students went on a field trip to the county sportsplex, and our whole school celebrated Family Literacy Week by participating in various activities. Our junior high basketball teams are back up and running, swimming lessons for grades 2-5 kick off this month, and our annual ski trip is right around the corner.
The weather this year has unfortunately resulted in icy conditions as well as a number of indoor recess breaks due to cold temperatures. Thank-you for your support and understanding as we adjust to the changes in temperature. Just a quick reminder of the school’s cold weather policy, students will go outside for recess breaks unless the temperature drops below -23 (including wind chill). Please ensure your child has a warm jacket, gloves and toques.
As a school we are fortunate to have proactive and positive School Council and Participarent groups who meet regularly. If any parents are interested in joining our meetings, please feel free! Everyone is welcome and we do appreciate parental input and support during these meetings. If you do not already follow the Participarent group on Facebook, please consider joining.
Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year opens March 2nd. If you know any families interested in attending WRCS please encourage them to register early as our kindergarten classes do fill up quickly. If you have any questions about kindergarten registration, please feel free to contact us at the school.
Sincerely,
Mr. Peter Bailey
Vice Principal
Mission Statement
At WRCS we strive to establish strong relationships, while working collaboratively to maintain high expectations for all.
Vision Statement
WRCS inspires every staff member and student to become the best version of themselves
DROP OFF AND PICK UP
Our school parking lot can be incredibly busy. Please be very careful when driving through, and ensure that you're always letting your children out of the vehicle along the sidewalk. We are working with our School Council as well as the school division to mitigate the congestion, but the fact is we simply have a very large population and the parking lot and drop-off lane gets full fast.
Given our high population of students, parents are asked to please wait outside the building at the beginning and end of each school day. Our hallways are very crowded with students (and staff), and this helps us to mitigate congestion while also ensuring we know who is in our building at any given time during the day. It is a great idea to plan a meeting point with your child where they know to look for you.
Whispering Ridge Community School Fees
Please try to have your school fees paid by November 24th.
In order to ensure we can continue to offer enriching learning experiences and optimal programming for our students, we are instating a small school fee for students in grades 1-8. The school administration team worked with our School Council group to weigh the pros and cons, and to ensure that this decision was supported moving forward. So with the support of our School Council, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, we will kindly ask that each family pay a small fee of $30 per student.
What will this money be used for?
Purchasing additional resources/supplies to enhance learning
Supporting enrichment projects and activities
Additional off-site learning opportunities
Helping with the rising costs of operation and basic supplies
How do I pay this fee?
Our school office accepts cash, cheque, and debit
What if I can’t afford this?
Please reach out to Mrs. Stilwell directly and we can work something out
