Principal's Corner
The Week Ending 12/13/19
Dear OSES Technology Campus Families,
Remember that only uniform jackets are permitted to be worn on campus. Students that have school uniform hoodies may not wear the hood unless outside. Students may wear non-uniform jackets to school, however need to remove them once inside the building.
Please do not use the front desk to drop off or pick up students. The car line must be used in the morning until 8:10 for Building 1 and 8:20 for building 2.
Congratulations to Gnomestruction FLL robotics team. They won best robot design and tournament champion this weekend.

The Technology Campus is incredibly thankful for all of our faithful readers, and for that we would like to reward our families. Moving forward we will have a NEWSLETTER QUIZ located under the Principal's corner.
Dress down passes will be rewarded to the students who receive a 100% on the quiz for that week!

Central Florida Math Tournament (CFMT) 2019
The Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society of Orlando Science High School invites all 4th and 5th grade students to compete at the Central Florida Math Tournament (CFMT) to be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2019.
Registration is now open! If you would like to register your student for this year's Invitational, visit the registration page and fill out the form with your student's information. Please note that CFMT is an individual math contest and each student needs to register separately.
Registration must be completed online at our website
https://www.ossmualphatheta.com/cfmt no later than Friday, December 6th, 2019. Registration fee is $15 for each student and should be paid online via School Pay. The competition is open to first 250 students who applied.
The competition will take place at Orlando Science Elementary School campus which is located at 2601 Technology Drive, Orlando FL 32804.

NASA’s Mars 2020 rover needs a name! Any K-12 student in U.S. public, private, and home schools has a chance to name the next Mars rover bound for the Red Planet in July 2020.
To enter the contest, students submit their rover name and a short essay (max 150 words) to explain the reasons why their chosen name is the best. The contest closes Nov. 1, 2019. More information at https://lnkd.in/eNKNbp6

Carlie S (Grade 5) enjoyed a staycation over Thanksgiving break. She went on a Christmas Tree Scavenger Hunt at Universal Orlando and visited ICE! at Gaylord Palms.

In Ms. Waugh’s class, students worked on a holiday division project in Math. They have also been reading the book Amos and Boris. In Science, they are continuing to study the weather and how the sun warms us. Students worked with partners to find a way to solve the problem of warming up the playground in Chill City. In Social Studies, they are learning about inventions from the past and even wrote messages in Morse Code!
Ms. Wolf's class had the opportunity to travel to JetBlue University for a field trip to learn about how engines work, tour the facility, and talk to a pilot and flight attendant about what a typical day looks like for their jobs!

Third grade worked really hard on our i-Ready!
This week Mrs. Sokoloff’s class is working on inventions and learning about inventors. We finished our chapter on multiplication and we are now moving to division.

In World History, we are continuing our study of Ancient China and hope to finish next week. There is a lot to unpack, so be sure to read the passages on Ancient China and the Mongols in Study Island to be able to complete the activities. We won’t be able to cover it all!
In Mr. Press’s Mythology and Art in World Cultures elective, the kids learned about the significance of henna art and created art on their hands… sort of.

Calling All Scientist!!!!!!
The Curtis Rising Stars Science Challenge introduces young students to science competitions and helps them develop teamwork skills. The competition is open to students in Grades K–5, K-2 will be on February 1st and 3-5 on February 15th. The competition starts at 9 and ends around 2:30-3.
Students are first prepared through pre-activities and prompts with their class at school. The experience culminates in the day-long competition at the Orlando Science Center, when students put their STEM skills into practice.
Parents are to stay with their student at the Orlando Science Center during the competition. At the end of the competition, your family will have access to the Science Center for the rest of the day!
We have the ability to have three groups of 4 students per grade level.

secme bottle rockets
This past Saturday, December 7th, our school competed at the Super STEM Saturday county competition. There were several schools from all over Orange county present and competing at several different events. One event was the Bottle Rocket Competition. Students wrote detailed reports, diagrams, made patched designs, and launched their rockets to demonstrate their knowledge. Our team of 5th graders, made up of Sanjana, Kyara, and Shriya, won First place! Their hard work paid off!

Our school competed at Super STEM Saturday on December 7, 2019. For the essay and vision board category, Rita won first place for middle school and Aarit won second place for elementary. Congratulations to both students and we wish them luck when they compete at SECME Regionals in February.

STEM Fair winners and SECME teams competed at Super STEM Saturday on December 7, 2019. This is the first of many competitions throughout the year for the SECME teams. Congratulations to all that went and competed and a huge congratulations to those that placed at the county level!

Traveling Orca
Our traveling Orca has been slowly making his way around campus. I am hoping that he makes it back to Building 2 next week. Please check out his blog with your class. It is updated weekly. The kids in the club would love to see some comments added to the posts! Make sure you play the Kindness theme song! It’s a catchy little tune 😊

Parents can now make FREE online payments for most school expenses online with School Pay. This includes School Lunch and After Care! Simply log into your secure online School Pay Parent Center account and pay for items including after school care fees, club fees, field trips, class fees, student fees and more. The first step is creating your Parent Center Account at schoolpay.com Please go to "Charter Schools" tab and then choose your school name as "Orlando Science Elementary School" to complete the steps for creating your parent account.
