Workshops and Seminars are Back!
Hello Dragon Families!
Students spoke, and we listened! Last year, students made it loud and clear that they missed seminars and workshops, so we decided to bring them back. The original reason for decreasing and/or eliminating these opportunities a few years ago was to provide students with more time to focus on their independent projects. Although this extra time was helpful for some students, we recognize that for many others, the extra time was not what they needed. Instead, many students need and appreciate the foundational skills taught in workshops and the guided project work of seminars.
Some students are already participating in our current seminars, Vietnam War and Aerospace Dimensions. Going forward, more seminars will be offered.
Additionally, Ms. Melissa is piloting a new workshop schedule for social studies. The purpose of these workshops is to help students develop the necessary project-based learning skills to successfully research their projects. It is our hope that we will offer more of these workshops in the other content areas as well. These workshops are helpful for every student, providing small group instruction focused on immediate needs. They are also a short-term commitment, requiring only 45 minutes once or twice per week depending on the group. We are confident these workshops will help students feel more confident in their project-based learning endeavors.
Thank you for being a dragon! We appreciate you and we believe in you.
With gratitude,
Jen + the JDAL Staff
