International Walk + Roll to School Day
International Walk + Roll to School Day
On October 6th, 2021 join people from around the world as we celebrate International Walk + Roll to School Day. Walk, bike, scooter, skate, roll, bus or carpool to school and be entered to win fun prizes. The grand prize winner will earn a new scooter with helmet! Walking and rolling to school is great for kids, our community and our planet. Here are the top five reasons:
- 1. Fewer vehicles driving to school reduces traffic congestion and carbon emissions near schools and in our parking lots.
- 2. More people walking and rolling builds school community and makes routes safer.
- 3. Physical activity boosts kids’ readiness to learn and improves their physical and mental health.
- 4. Kids have fun with friends and bond with families while walking and rolling together.
- 5. Being outside builds independence and lifelong transportation skills.

Important TAG Information
October 7, 6:00 pm
- TAG Parent Night, on Zoom. Zoom Link for Meeting
- All Bethany 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener. Please make plans to have your children here and on time for these three days.
This 30-minute test measures students’ learned reasoning abilities through verbal/picture analogies, number analogies and figure matrices.
Currently the main purpose for administering the CogAT is to identify students for TAG in the area of intellectual ability. Students who score at the 97th percentile or above on the CogAT screener will be invited to test with the full version of the CogAT that is used for potential TAG identification. The full version of the CogAT will be given in late October or November.

Parent Nomination Forms For TAG Testing
Each year students are considered for Talented and Gifted students in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). If you think your child might qualify, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form below. Completing this form gives your child's school TAG committee more information about your child. Classroom teachers also collect observational data from students each fall and make recommendations for testing.

Volunteering at Bethany
Volunteers are a very important part of Bethany. The DIstrict is looking at limited volunteer opportunities in the building, we will keep you updated as we receive more information.
All volunteers need to have a background check completed by the District, in order to work around our students. This includes classroom volunteers, going on field trips, classroom pary planners, Jog-A-Thon help etc.
We would encourage you to click on the link below and do your volunteer background check now. If you wait until the District begins to allow volunteers into the building, there might be a wait of a few weeks before you are able to help.

IMPORTANT: On August 19, Governor Kate Brown announced that all volunteers must provide proof of vaccination or complete a medical or religious exemption to volunteer in any K-12 school.
- New Volunteers: You'll be asked to upload your vaccination card or an exemption form.
- Current Volunteers: log onto your myimpactpage.com account. Go to the "My Profile" tab on the upper right, click on "Additional Information" and then select "Beaverton School District." Scroll to the bottom of the screen to find the COVID Vaccination section. From here, you can upload your vaccination card. If you need an exemption form, click on the "i" icon and download the form. After it's completed, it can be uploaded in this same area.

********** PTO Updates **********

Note from the BSPTO President
Dear Bethany Bobcat Families,
It was a joy to have so many families attend the first Bethany School PTO meeting on Tuesday night via zoom. Seeing that so many from our community of families that call Bethany home were there, coming together to support all of our children and our school staff and teachers, was very energizing.
I am so thankful that we have this opportunity to rebuild, re-energize, and re-engage family involvement in and for our school, our students, and our community as best we can, especially during this time which continues to be challenging and unpredictable. WE are definitely STRONGER TOGETHER! Go BOBCATS!
Please join us for our next meeting October 26 at 7 pm via zoom.
Cheers,
Jamie Speck

Lunch Time At Bethany
For COVID Safety reasons, we have students eating outside
Dry Conditions: We have three separate grass areas that we are using, with each class in a designated spot.
Wet / Windy Conditions: We will continue to eat outside, undercover. Below is a picture of our lunch time yesterday when it began to rain. We are able to have each class separated, and keep social distancing for eating.
Please make sure to send a coat with your child on cold days.
School Meals Menu
We offer a vegetarian option at every meal. Please click on the Menus below to find out what entree is vegetarian. You can discuss with your child which item to choose.
For those who bring lunch from home, milk can be purchased separately for 50 cents. You will need to have money in their account or bring money.

School Birthday Policy
We've had several inquiries about birthday celebrations at school. I wasn't able to find a written policy for Bethany and all schools have slightly different rules. In my 23 years in schools, I have seen a variety of policies and the impact on individual students and the class as a whole.
For a variety of reasons, including health, safety (COVID and allergies), disruption to instructional time, and hurt feelings, we will NOT be celebrating individual student birthdays at school. Teachers acknowledge students with birthdays in a variety of ways (class singing, a sticker, birthday pencil, special jobs, etc). We want every child to feel special on their birthday without having a potential negative impact on the rest of the class.
We know the requests to celebrate your child come from such a beautiful and loving place. ❤️One thing you might consider is donating a favorite book to the class library in honor of your child or having them bring a favorite book to be read aloud (arrange with the teacher first). Party invitations may not be distributed at school (even if they are for the whole class). Thank you for understanding.
P.S. We've ordered birthday ribbons so that we may celebrate each child in the office. We'll catch up with the September birthdays we've already missed! 😉
