Some perspective: Term IV versus FINAL Grades
There is no precedent or policy about grading during a pandemic. After researching many models this Spring, I advocated for the following:
Term IV is PASS/FAIL. For seniors, we froze GPAs at the end of Term III.
In order for senior teachers to calculate FINAL grades (for which credit is determined), we used a student-friendly rubric for TEACHERS to quantify senior students' participation with a holistic level of understanding of their assignments.
After finalizing the data for the seniors Term IV, we determined that this model makes sense for underclassmen, especially for grade 9, 10 and 11 students who worked hard from April through June.
FINAL grades will award credit for a class and be used to calculate a student's grade point average. FINAL grades also are used for honor roll and will establish ELIGIBILITY for fall sports and activities.
I continue to encourage students to be engaged with their classes and the remote learning opportunities that their teachers are presenting them. Use your final week to make up any work you can.
And finally...
Cheers!
