Ms. Newton's Notes
Happy Monday!
We were happy to see everyone back this week! We trust that you had a restful break and are ready for a busy month. Please check out all of the happenings below!
Custodial Appreciation Day
This Wednesday we will be showing our love and appreciation for F.AVE's custodial staff. They do so much for our students and staff each day, so we will shower them with our thanks and gratitude. You are welcome to do the same. Some of their favorite things are below or just send them a note of thanks.
- Ms. Ann--loves baked goods (cookies, donuts, etc.) She also enjoys decorating and flowers
- Mr. Mike--loves fresh fruit and nuts
- Mr. Will--loves soft candy (gummy bears, Reese cups, etc.) and plain chips
Cast Gatherings (Formerly Village Gatherings)
What do you call a group of Falcons? A Cast of Falcons.
We are so excited to prepare for our first gathering with students and families. We are not yet at a size that allows our entire school to gather in one space, so we will continue to have our Cast Gatherings in two parts. Each gathering will have a combination of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. We will keep these groupings for the school year, but we might alternate days and times. Please plan to join us for this month's gathering.

Fall Book Fair Coming October 10th! Sign Up to Volunteer
F.AVE is excited this year to host two book fairs, one in the fall hosted by Scholastic and one in February hosted by Little Shop of Stories! Our fall book fair is less than two weeks away, and we want you to be ready! Please read below for important information about how you can participate in our fall book fair.
- Come to our Book Fair Opening Night on Thursday, October 10th from 3:00-7:00 PM! Mojo's Pizza will be selling pizza and King of Pops will be selling popsicles from 4-7! You can be the first to shop at the fair, eat some yummy local food, and support F.AVE in one fell swoop!
- Sign your student up for eWallet! Instead of sending your child to school with easily misplaced cash or checks, you can go online and load money into an easily created student account. This allows you to set a spending limit, and any money not spent will revert back to you. We encourage this in lieu of sending money with your child. Click here to learn more!
- We need parent volunteers! Please sign up here and help us make this book fair a successful one. We can't do it without your help.
- Book Fair Sales Hours
- Opening Night celebration on Thursday, October 10th from 3:00-7:00 PM
- Friday, 10/11, then Monday, 10/14 - Thursday 10/17 from 7:20 AM - 3:30 PM
- Friday 10/18 from 7:20-10:30 AM

Important Information about Gifted Review
Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and to determine if further evaluation for possible gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at this website) and submit it to the Gifted Specialist at your child’s school by October 9th. No additional information is needed.
The Gifted Specialists for F.AVE are Jennifer Broman-Fulks (3rd grade), Edwin Ellis (4th grade) and Jackie Theisen (5th grade). For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted Specialist for your child's grade level or visit the website linked above.

Next Walk & Roll: Tuesday, October 8
Join us for International Walk&Roll to School Day! We’ll be handing out numbered certificates again to all participants for a chance to win books from the media center AND a brand new "F.Ave Red" bike helmet! If you can't walk all the way, drive to Harmony Park (corner of Mead, Oakview, and Eastlake) and walk the final 0.4 miles. Additional 'Stop, Drop, and Walk' routes to F.Ave are found here. If you must drive, please be extra cautious -- give children extra room (remember, a 3-foot distance is the law, but more is always better!), as they might not be as sturdy or mindful on their bikes as adults.

Read-a-Thon is Coming: 10/19 - 10/24
Get ready for our first Read-a-thon at F.Ave! What better way to raise money for our school than with a friendly reading competition? After stocking up on books from the Book Fair, students will be invited to compete with their classmates to see who can read the most. Classes and individuals with most minutes read will earn some cool prizes, not to mention bragging rights!
Read-A-Thon (formerly Math-a-Thon) is one of our primary fundraisers for the year. The money raised is crucial to support the PTO budget which helps to fund initiatives such as field trips, teacher grants, diversity & equity efforts, social activities like picnics and movie nights, common area improvements and free yearbooks. Keep an eye out for reading logs and pledge sheets which will be coming home soon. And, please encourage your student to ask neighbors and family for their support!
