Founders Weekly
January 28th to February 1st
Shout out!
So many great things happened this week! I want to recognize a few:
- Mr. Mazza for circling up with his class for an honest conversation about teaching and learning!
- Mr. Brinker for all the extra time he puts in with students and for students every day!
- Ms. Yeidi for managing the office and students with calm consistency!
Debrief Meeting Updates
Discipline Communication: Weekly SWIS reports for discipline will be rolled out beginning the end of this week-Yeidi has agreed to enter the data to ensure timely entry since Kayla has so many responsibilities
Sensory Room: We are in search of a drill to put up the sensory room door until we are able to manage the space better. I plan to resolve this by Friday
Cleats for Doors: This was a Mr. LeClair invention. I have asked Mr. LeClair to come and assess the possibility of this on Founders doors
Emergency Response: Robin has begun to use our emergency response system and we will roll out more information as she learns better how it functions
Emergency Drill Procedures: We are making cheat sheets to post in rooms by next week. We will review and practice with students
Lives in the Balance
Parent Emails & Meetings:
Parent Relationships are ESSENTIAL and contact is highly encouraged!
A note of caution about parent emails. Emails and texts are convenient but lose the context and clarification opportunities of speaking with a parent. In the last 3 weeks emails have spurred multiple parents to arrive immediately and unannounced to school with fear, confusion, or anger. Please keep in mind the following guidelines when emailing or texting.
- Why are we contacting? Informational, Request for Support, Looking for a Solution and state that expectation clearly to parents
- Clarify that we are speaking of behavior of a child and not the child themselves. As a parent, it can feel as though we’re getting a list of complaints about our child.
- Include information about our intervention. If we are contacting a parent over a concern we should state what we have done.
- If we are asking a parent to come in we need a clear understanding of why and an agenda for the meeting before the invitation. Karen and case managers should be looped in on all parent contact.
Recess Schedule
Recess:
We ran into a situation of a crowded outdoor recess on Friday. Please follow this schedule to resolve this issue.
Please note that there should be 1 teacher per class of 16 students outside supervising for safety.
If you haven't gone outside... try it! Overall kids LOVE it!
Here are the expectations.
Town Meeting
Please actively supervise students and engage in activities! Your participation matters!
Grade Level Meeting Template
In a training Friday some colleagues have unearthed concerns about the effectiveness of our Grade Level Protocols and Template. We will be meeting to discuss and revise this Friday.
