SSMS Weekly Update

October 29, 2021

Dear SSMS Families,

Thank you to all the parents that brought amazing soup and chili to feed our school staff today. The parent volunteers that set up, served, and cleaned up were amazing. We couldn't do what we do without outstanding volunteers. We have such incredible support from our families and our SSMS team is so appreciative.

Monday is a student holiday and staff development day. We look forward to seeing everyone back here at SSMS on Tuesday November 2nd. We hope you have an outstanding weekend. Go Tigers!

Support Team Sycamore As We Raise Awareness and Funding for Type 1 Diabetes!

Team Sycamore is a student-led team of SSMS students, families and friends who are fundraising and walking to raise awareness and end type 1 diabetes (T1D). As a team, we know that there is no way to prevent T1D and there is no cure–yet. Our team is supporting the JDRF One Walk this year as we know that JDRF is working hard to find a cure and we want this cure for our classmates, staff, family and friends living with T1D.

At SSMS, we strive to look beyond ourselves and know that together we have the power to make a difference. If you would like to support Team Sycamore reach our goals, please use the link below to visit our webpage where you can make a donation, join the team or check out our progress!

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions regarding Team Sycamore, please reach out to Mrs. McGilvray, SSMS NJHS adviser.

What is your child eating at school? Do you know? Parent Pro Tip

Did you ever wonder what your child eats at school? If you are using PayPams, the automated school lunch payment system, you can see every item your child purchases via the app. At SSMS we have 2 cafeteria lines. Line 1 is the traditional hot lunch, which includes a balanced and healthy meal. Line 2 is the a la carte line. Items for sale in this line include fried chicken fingers, pizza, cookies, chips, flavored drinks, etc. Students who regularly buy lunch in Line 2 spend more money. The food that students purchase in line 2 tends to be higher in fat and sugar. If you are concerned about what your child is eating at school, remember, you can see every purchase in the PayPams App.

CLOSE UP IS BACK!

We are so excited to be sharing this opportunity with our students again this year! Because of the travel restrictions of the last couple of years, we are opening the trip to all 7th AND 8th graders. After this year, however, only 7th grade students will be invited to attend.

Here are Frequently Asked Questions about the trip - if you would like to sign up, there is a link at the bottom of the FAQ document. Your enrollment coupon will be sent home with your child beginning next week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to rebecca.smart@dsisdtx.us or kristin.wright@dsisdtx.us
