Mrs. Barba's Bulletin
Week 12: November 13th-17th
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING
Math: We have started our measurement unit. Students will be comparing objects with a common measurable attribute and describing their differences using vocabulary such as shorter, taller, and longer. We are using one-to-one correspondence from 0-20. Students describe objects, express relationships, make predictions, and solve problems as they build an understanding of numbers. Recognize instantly the amount of a small group of objects.
Reading: The students will be able to ask questions about the story being read to build on comprehension; identify the difference between a letter and a printed word; blend onset and rimes from spoken words or pictures; use knowledge to match sounds and letters; identify the beginning sounds to words or pictures.
Popcorn Word: The popcorn word being introduced this week is the word "with".
Interesting Words: We continue writing our names and doing environmental print.
Writing: We're learning how to form letters from left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Every letter has an upper case and lowercase. Phonological knowledge can be used to match letters to sounds. Students will write their own name. Students will identify high frequency words. Understand and use parts of speech in reading, writing, and speaking: pronouns. We are focusing on "stop light sentences". Green for beginning with a capital letter, and red for ending with a punctuation mark.
Science: Students are learning how to observe and record the different properties of objects.
Social Studies: Students will be able to show how first they work and then we play. We are also learning about the traditions and origins of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Library Day!
HOME-SCHOOL CONNECTION...
Parents please work with your child each night for at least 10 minutes to practice writing their names, writing words, how to hold a pencil, and practice how to color in the lines. It would really help your child a lot if they are not only practicing that at school but at home as well.
Please make sure your child is completing their homework assignment for each day. The homework will be due December 1st. Also please keep reading nightly to help your child grow into a life-long reader. Please read with and to your child each night for 15 minutes and record it on their reading log in their agenda.
