Ensure DPF Is In Position In Your Car
As the name suggests, diesel particulate filter or DPF traps or filters soot and any diesel particulate matter from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. The incomplete combustion of diesel results in the production of black carbon or soot particles. This increases the atmospheric pollution causing health concerns. The type of combustion is dependent on the age and type of the engine as well as the emission specifications of that engine. Normally, two-stroke engines produce more particulate matter than four-stroke ones. Since 2009 when the ‘Euro 5’ came into force, all new diesel cars have compulsory fitment of DPF, in accordance with the exhaust emissions. These have to be emptied and maintained on a regular basis using a process known as ‘regeneration’. In this process, the soot that is collected is burnt at high temperature, leaving only an ash residue. If this filter is not maintained properly and warnings of soot collection are ignored, it will tell on the performance of the vehicle. DPF maintenance and replacement are done in the Milton Keynes area at Quality Car Service with much precision and expertise. Here, there is a four-step process to address the DPF problems. The first step includes the assessment of the customer followed by the vehicular assessment. Then the methods of repair are reviewed with the customer followed lastly by the actual repair. The DPF is very important especially from February 2014 because new MOT test rules specify the presence of a DPF. A missing DPF that was part of the original equipment will lead to MOT failure.
