University Elementary Monthly News

Principal’s Message
School has gotten off to a wonderful start! I have been able to visit all of the classrooms and I am witnessing high student engagement. I have also had the great pleasure to interact with students on the playground. They have shared their summer happenings with me as well as their pleasure with their classroom placements.
Thank you all for your thoughtful and safe cooperation in our parking lot during drop-off and pick-up times. Safe and timely transitions into and out of the parking lot is always our number one goal. Our parking lot has been operating smoother than ever due to you!
It is important that students start school on time. I would like to suggest, for those of you experiencing difficulty making it to school by the second bell, that you leave the house just five minutes earlier. That should get you here on time providing your student with the best start to their day.
Please look for a monthly newsletter the first week of each month. (Due to the previous communications with our new student information system, I held off this month.). Each month I will inform you of the current news in the items below as well any new developments that occur. We are always working to provide good communication. It is my hope that all parents signed up for texting. Research has proven that the best way for us to confirm you receive information from us is through texting. Remember that you can always visit our website to confirm dates on our calendar or locate our link to monthly newsletters.
I am looking forward to a great year with you and your students!
Charlotte Straub
Principal
Lifeskill of the Month: Respect
•We walk quietly around school grounds when class is in session so that we do not interrupt learning and teaching.
•We allow our classmates to learn by keeping our voices off when the teacher or another student is talking.
•We clean up after ourselves in the classroom, the lunchroom, the bathroom and on the playground.
•We respect ourselves by making choices that lead to our good health, school success and friendships.
Grades 2-5
We put our backpacks down in our line and join the morning walk when we arrive at school in the morning.
Make the home connection by having a discussion of ways that your family shows respect to each other and your home.
Respect is an important concept that when understood and exercised, leads to respect from others, higher levels of trust and greater harmony in our environments.
