The 2019-20 Winter Season In Review
64 Winter Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors
This winter our Howell student-athletes not only excelled in their sport but they also had success in the classroom. Our winter student-participants held a nearly 97% attendance rate during the first semester. For their efforts in the classroom, 64 winter Howell student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-Conference performers. In order to receive this recognition students must be a varsity letter winner and hold a cumulative GPA over 3.5 during the course of their high school career. Below you can find the list of all 64 students listed by sport. Congratulations to these young men and women for their efforts and dedication to "winning in the classrom!"

Two Vikings Earn Academic All-State Honors

Winter Programs Win 3 Of A Possible 5 Conference Championships
Congratulations to our winter sports programs for another successful season. Our programs won three of a possible five GAC Championships during the winter. Golden Girls & Company Finish 2nd At State, Make History At UDA Nationals
The Golden Girls & Company traveled to Kansas City this winter to compete in the Missouri Dance Team Association State Championships. Our GG's & Co finished 2nd overall at State. You can view their performances from State by clicking the links below. This is the programs seventh straight Final Four finish and eleventh in the past fourteen years that also includes six State Championships. Congratulations to the coaches, dancers and parents for a great 2019-20 season and for representing Howell in such a great way.
The Varsity Golden Girls & Company also traveled to Chicagoland to take part in the UDA Chicagoland Dance Championships. The competition contains the top high school dance programs from across the midwest. Our GG's & Co. finished second in the competion behind the defending National Champion. The second place finish matches the highest finish in program history at Chicagoland. Last year the program also finished in second place at Chicagoland. Congratulations to the Golden Girls & Company and good luck to this group as they prepare for State and the UDA Nationals!

The JV Golden Girls traveled to the UDA Chicagoland Dance Championships as well. The competition is filled with the top dance programs from across the Midwest and our GG's had a strong showing. They placed 1st in Hip-Hop and 2nd in Jazz.

The JV and Varsity Golden Girls & Company programs also traveled to compete in the UDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida this winter. Both programs represented Howell very well at the National level. The varsity program finished 5th in the nation in both the Hip-Hop and Jazz categories. The 5th place finish in Jazz was the programs best finish in program history. Both performances were featured on ESPN. The JV GG's also had a strong showing with a 2nd place finish in Hip-Hop and 5th place finish in Jazz. Congratulations to the coaches and dancers on a great season!

Boys Basketball Wins Third Straight District Championship, Reaches State Quarterfinals
This winter the Boys Basketball program brought home their third straight District Championship and played in their sixth straight District Championship game. The #3 State ranked Boys Basketball program ended their season in the State Quarterfinals to #1 State ranked CBC. The game was attended by 60 "essential personnel" which MSHSAA put in place following the corona outbreak. The amazing support that the Boys Basketball program received at homes and restaurants from fans viewing the live stream was truly impressive. The game was viewed on live stream by nearly 11,000. The Vikings finished their season 28-2. The past two seasons have been the best two season's in program history as they earned a combined record of 56-6. Congratulations to Coach Jacob, staff, players, parents and fans for an amazing season. Viking fans are looking forward to the 2020-21 season already!
Winter Activities & Sports Earn A Record 151 State Qualifiers
The very special winter season for our Vikings saw 151 young men and women qualify for State in their respective activities and sports. The 151 State Qualifiers marked the most during the winter season in school history. Congratulations to the following Vikings for representing Howell at the State level!

Stroh & Jacob Earn Coach Of The Year Honors
Howell has a strong group of coaches that continue to move our programs forward. This winter two of our coaches were recognized with "Coach of the Year" honors. Congratulations to Coach Stroh and Coach Jacob on both earning Coach of the Year honors. Both coaches won conference championships this season and their programs were ranked at the State level. Coach Stroh won his 200th dual of his coaching career at Howell and Coach Jacob won is 6th straight conference championship this season. Congratulations to both coaches for the great things they are doing in and out of sport for students at Howell.

Winter Programs Make Their Mark On The Community
Reihms Performs At MMEA Conference As Part Of All-State Ensemble
Congratulations to Julianna Reihms for representing Howell this winter at the MMEA Conference. Julianna was one of 195 students who met at Tan-Tar-A at Lake of the Ozarks last week for the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference. The students rehearsed for 2 intense days and performed for an audience of over 1000 people as 1 of 5 All State performing ensembles associated with the conference. Congratulations to Julianna on receiving such a great honor!

Schark Finishes Historic Basketball Career As All-Time Leading Scorer
Howell senior Matt Schark finished his high school basketball career accomplishing things that no other player has done in the history of Howell. Simply put, he has been the best to put on a Viking uniform in Howell Basketball history. Schark ended his career with 1,879 points which makes him Howell's all-time leading scorer by 435 points. In his four seasons he helped lead the Vikings to 4 conference Championships, 3 District Championships and appearances in 1 State Sectional, 1 State Quarterfinal & 1 Final Four. Over the course of those four seasons the Vikings amassed a record of 106-16. Schark has been a leader over the course of the past four seasons not only on the court but also as a leader and great role model for current and future Vikings. Congratulations to Matt Schark on an amazing career that has brought so many great memories to Howell and Viking fans!

Coach Sampo Named Teacher Of The Year
This winter Howell Assistant Wrestling Coach Josh Sampo. Coach Sampo was named the Teacher of the Year at Hardin Middle School in the St. Charles School District. Coach Sampo has been on the wrestling staff at Howell for over ten years and is an excellent role model and leader for Howell wrestlers. Congratulations to Coach Sampo for not only doing great things on the mat but for all of his efforts in the classroom as well.
Howell E-Sports Team Ranked #1 In State & #12 Nationally, Reach Elite 8 In National Tournament
Congratulations to the Howell E-Sports Team and Coach Reeves. In their first year competing this winter the Vikings are currently ranked #1 in the State and are ranked #12 in the nation! Our Howell e-sports team recently reached the Elite 8 in a national Fortnite Tournament. The team also has several players that are ranked in the Top 500 players in North America.
