Krahn Newsletter
November
Message from Mrs. Rodgers
November is a time intended for giving thanks. I would like to take this opportunity to share my gratitude to you all for taking the time to read with your children, talk to them about their learning/goals, communicate with their teacher/s, and countless other things you do as a parent or guardian to encourage and support the education of your child.
In the spirit of gratitude, we also want to thank our amazing Krahn staff members. Please reach out to one of our staff members with an email or card that has made an impact on your student.
One of our goals this year is to work on our attendance rate. Last year we were at 92.96% and we needed to be at 94% to help us reach part of the distinction. With that being said, we are starting an attendance challenge in each grade level for the 2nd Quarter. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to sickness or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school it can cause them to fall behind academically. Research shows: Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.
Clearly going to school regularly matters! We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:
- Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Ensure your students go to school every day unless they are truly sick
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.

Veteran's Day Car Parade
If you, a family member, or a friend is a veteran, please come out and join the car parade, so we can celebrate and honor veterans. Veterans will drive or ride in their vehicle around the parade route (see map). Students will be lined up outside along the parade route to wave and cheer. For safety, drivers will drive down the center of the lane. Roll down your windows and wave back, but please, stay in your vehicle and keep moving. No throwing items of any kind to the crowd! You are welcome to decorate your car/truck with a patriotic theme; perhaps adding the name of the veteran, service dates, and military branch. Please ensure that any car/bumper stickers that are not appropriate for our school setting are covered up during the parade.
We sure hope to see a lot of wonderful veterans in their cars, ready to hear us cheer!
If you have any questions about the parade, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email klang1@kleinisd.net or 832-484-6274

Krahn Carpool
We are loading over 300 students in the afternoon carpool in 25 minutes!
We need your help to make sure our system runs safely and smoothly.
Please adhere to the following carpool expectations:
Students are released at 3:25.
Stay in your car. Staff will assist with opening doors for students who need assistance.
Stay in the lane that you are in. Numbers are put in by the order you are in and students are lined up accordingly.
We will stop inputting numbers at 3:50. After 3:50, you will need your carpool tag or current photo ID to sign them out in the front office.
No photos of carpool tags are accepted.
Overflow is for students who have not made it to the carpool area when their round is loaded.
Thanks for your help Krahn families!
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal
If your child arrives after 8:10 in the morning or is having an early dismissal a parent or guardian must sign them in/out at the front office. The front roundabout is used for buses and is a fire line and cannot be used for parking. You will need to park in one of the visitor parking spots, or across the street if there are no spots available.

Leadership Academy
Culture4Caring
Krahn Elementary will kick off Klein ISD’s Culture 4 Caring Club this month! This club is open to any K-5 student who is committed to promoting kindness, caring, unity, equality, originality, and culture at Krahn Elementary and in our Klein community. Club members will work together to help facilitate activities throughout the year on our campus. Culture 4 Caring was established by Klein ISD to create a community of caring inside our school so that EVERY student feels included!
If your child is interested in being a part of Culture 4 Caring, they must turn in their signed permission slip to attend the monthly meetings. Our first Culture 4 Caring meeting will be on November 9 from 7:15-7:40 in the Krahn Library. Please drop your student off at 7:15 at the FRONT school doors. Please do not drop students off after 7:20 for Culture 4 Caring meetings. There will not be an adult at the front to let them in after 7:20.
Our first meeting will focus on establishing a thankful tree at Krahn for all to add to, and creating posters to display around our school for Anti-Bullying/Friendship week. I cannot wait to see your students there!
Thank you,

Lexia
Did you know that 99.6% of students who met the Lexia end of year Benchmark passed the STAAR? Lexia is an individualized phonics based program that meets students at their current level. Students can access this program at home.. Having your child get on Lexia for 15-20 min. will benefit your child greatly. The time they spend working on Lexia will also work towards our grade level Lexia challenge. Every Monday the class with the highest usage from the previous week will receive a stuffed Krahn Snoopy in their class, along with a class reward. Please reach out to your teacher with any questions about how to access the program at home.
